#Microsoft closes Bing flight price predictor, bought the tech from Farecast in 2008

Microsoft is stopping its support for Windows XP and Office 2003 today but the company has also shut down a smaller but interesting service on its Bing Travel site as well. GeeKWire reports that the flight price prediction tool on that site is no longer available.

In a statement sent to the site. a Microsoft spokesperson said the decision to shut down the tool was a business decision to focus resources on areas where we feel there are the greatest opportunities to serve travel needs. What s really interesting about this move is that Microsoft bought the technology behind the tool when it acquired Farecast in 2008 for a rumored $115 million .

The idea behind the tool was that people could use it to see if a future airline flight they were interesting in buying a ticket for might go up or down in price in the near future. The original founder of Farecast, Oren Etzioni, told the site ... Read more »

Initially founded as the 'Govan Minibus Company' after bus deregulation, it provided strong competition to Strathclyde Buses in the Govan area of Glasgow by operating cheaper minibuses instead of Strathclyde's then full-size buses. Strathclyde countered the threat with minibuses of their own, known as 'Your Wee Happy Bus'. This was the first round of the 'Paisley bus wars' with many competing companies challenging for routes, threatening to bankrupt the larger companies, including Clydeside (now Arriva Scotland West ). The bus wars failed to stop the progress of the company, which was competing on a number of key routes with Strathclyde. After First Group purchased Strathclyde's Buses, Govan Minibus Company lost its operating licence when it was revoked by VOSA. The company changed direction away from mini-buses and was re-opened as 'First Stop Travel', usually shorted to F.S.T.

The company still had a large patronage on the former Govan Minibus Company routes and exploited ... Read more »

Amsterdam has many rings of canals. (Photo: amsterdam houses image by Patrik Stedrak from Fotolia.com )

The Dutch capital of Amsterdam consists of elegant Renaissance architecture, cozy cafes and world-class museums, all wrapped into a web of 160 man-made canals. Amsterdam might not be a typical paradise for budget-minded traveler s, but the city does offer a relatively affordable collection of attractions and accommodations. Add in the compact layout of the city center and the efficient public transit system, and it s easy to see the possibilities for a thrifty vacation in Holland s largest metropolis.

Flights go into Amsterdam via Schiphol Airport, but finding cheap direct flights can be tricky. Use sites like Skyscanner and Kayak to track special deals, or consider flying into an alternate city in Europe before completing the trip to Amsterdam. Gadling recommends destinations such as Brussels, London, Paris and Dusseldorf as cheap hubs to fly into. Budget airlines ... Read more »

How I lost $5,000 (Five Thousand) with OneTravel - How I lost $5,000 (Five Thousand Dollars!!)

What a scam.

Beware of this TravelOne company!!

Don t touch them with a 10 foot pole!!

The worst company I ve ever dealt with.

I booked round trip flights with OneTravel and they offered me a trip cancellation policy which I purchased. A week before our intended departure my wife injured her back and was not able to travel. We have all the documentation to prove it.

I had previously booked my land portion with another travel company.

When I called OneTravel to inquire about settling the trip cancellation claim, they told me that all they cover is the air portion and not any other expenses not purchased from them. I was told that it is not really a trip cancellation policy but only a ... Read more »

While the hit Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is certainly a must-see film, the real life museum has a few must-sees as well. The Smithsonian Institution is not just a museum, but a collection of 18 separate museums, with another one on the way. For those traveling to the area, a Smithsonian visit is the best value in Washington—free!

Since you can’t collect a little piece of history from every city and town and put it in one place, the National Museum of American History is the next best thing. If it’s Americana, it’s here. The exhibits range from wars to presidents to sitcoms to iconic heroes and stars. Perhaps the most impressive exhibit is the Star-Spangled Banner, which takes you through the history of the U.S. flag, including the original flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the country’s national anthem as it flew over Ft. McHenry in Blatimore. This is a very emotional exhibit for me.

Europe may be the world's second smallest continent, but it's a place of extreme importance, both in today's world and throughout history. The grand empires of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome were the early signposts, but the centuries since that time have seen the rise and fall of more great powers. Perhaps the era of Europe's greatest dominance began several centuries ago, as European nations set out to explore, colonise, and "Westernise" the rest of the world. Even now, decades after the official end of colonisation, Europe enjoys the power birthed and fostered during previous centuries.

Europe may not be large, but it is unique and diverse with more than 50 countries and even more languages and cultures. Compare the wealth and power of Western Europe with the comparatively underdeveloped Eastern Europe, although even those countries are catching up in the 21st century. Enjoy the warmth of South ... Spring break is already upon us, and if you’re looking to plan an upcoming summer vacation, the best travel rewards credit cards can help you come up with some extra savings on airfare, hotels, and general travel. All of these top travel cards offer lucrative points bonuses and superb options to earn and use points for maximum value.

Last year, I decided that the best travel rewards credit card for me is Chase Sapphire Preferred®

It has one of the largest signup bonuses in the industry as well as great long-term rewards for travel and dining. The number of ways you can redeem points, including transferring at equal value to many partners is simply unmatched by any card. This card remains my go to travel credit card again this year.

Case studies

Travel agency managers work in retail travel outlets which promote and sell holidays and travel related products.

Travel agencies range from small independent businesses to large chains. Some specialise in business travel while others have detailed knowledge of specific locations or travel products.

Responsibilities for managers vary depending on the size of the organisation and the customer base, but will usually include:

  • sales development;
  • staff and financial management;
  • daily operational management.

Travel agency managers must be able to offer specialist, professional and competitive travel products to meet the demands of the travel market, which includes online bookings and tailor-made trips.

As the larger travel companies close more of their high street shops to cut costs and focus on online sales, there are possibilites for independents to fill the gap.

The bus service in Croatia is first class: from frequent express buses that cover longer distances that are reasonably comfortable right down to bus connections between the smallest villages in the country. The train network in Croatia is somewhat on the limited side (as there s no train service that travels along the coast), so travelling by bus is far preferable. Bus travel in Croatia is also inexpensive, and the newish motorways that exist in parts of the country have reduced journey times considerably.

In almost every larger town, there is a large (or large-ish) bus terminal (autobusni kolodvor ) where tickets are sold and timetables are clearly displayed.

How do you afford to travel?

This is by far the most common question I receive. So I ve compiled a concise list of information and resources I use.

Saving money to travel comes down to prioritizing how you spend your money. Traveling is expensive, but so is buying lots of stuff you don t need. The only way to make it happen is by working hard and spending/saving wisely when you are not traveling. Moneysavingexpert is a UK based site that gives excellent advice on saving and boosting your income by earning extra money on the side.

Travel Hacking is about earning airmiles and points for free flights and accommodation. The main method of doing this is through credit cards that reward you for spending. Some good resources for finding the best airmiles schemes are TravelHacking. and Flyertalk. If you are from the UK, read this article. check HeadforPoints. and use HUKD for good travel deals.

A travel trailer or caravan is towed behind a road vehicle to provide a place to sleep which is more comfortable and protected than a tent (although there are fold-down trailer tents ). [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It provides the means for people to have their own home on a journey or a vacation. without relying on a motel or hotel. and enables them to stay in places where none is available. However, in some countries campers are restricted to designated sites for which fees are payable.

In Europe. the origins of travel trailers and caravanning can be traced back to travelling Romani people ('Gypsies'), and showmen who spent most of their lives in horse-drawn caravans.

Samuel White Baker purchased an actual Gypsy caravan in Britain and shipped it to Cyprus for his tour in 1879. [ 3 ] The world's first leisure trailer was built by the Bristol Carriage Company in 1880 for Dr. William Gordon Stables. a popular author of teenage adventure fiction, who ordered a "gentleman' ... Previously I mentioned that I managed to bag super affordable tickets to Paris, thanks to a flight comparison website.

There are a couple of sites offering the same service, but the mother of all flight comparison websites has got to be Momondo. It not only compares airfares from many different airlines, it also saves your time but helping  you compare deals from other flight comparison websites.

Budget travelers, you will love this. Let me show you how it works.

Okay, assuming that I m planning to go to Paris for a week or less, earlier in October. I don t have the exact dates for the trip yet, but my dates are flexible (as long as it s within the first two weeks of the month). My main priority is getting the most affordable tickets for the trip!

Ensure your protection against the unexpected before you travel abroad. Make sure you have coverage for possible injuries, food poisoning, car accidents, and even natural disasters. Oftentimes, primary medical coverage in your home country will not cover you while traveling abroad. Should something happen and you are without the right insurance coverage, the financial responsibility for any necessary medical care will likely be in your hands.

Be sure when you re looking for a travel medical insurance plan that it has not only the right health coverage, but also beneficial travel services like these:

  • Medical Evacuations (which alone can cost $50,000 to $100,000?)
  • Emergency Family Reunions
  • Natural Disasters
  • Trip Interruption

You guys, the temps are starting to drop as fast as crimson and golden leaves from trees, so it's high time to daydream about sand beaches, sunny skies, and fruity cocktails. We already talked about how hot the city of Fort Lauderdale is for the average sun seeker, but more and more it's overtaking Miami as an LGBT destination.

The city was recently named the "The Destination of the Year" by ManAboutWorld, as the top city for gay, lesbian and transgender visitors. Broward, the county that Fort Lauderdale calls home, is one of the most progressive in the U.S. from electing openly gay officials to passing same-sex domestic partnership benefits and barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and identity.

Fun fact: Fort Lauderdale was first US city to have a dedicated travel page for LGBT tourists, even integrating gay-friendly images to their mainstream tourism campaigns.

Have you ever wanted to travel to Europe – but don’t have enough money? One of the best ways to truly experience a country is to work while you explore. A job will immerse you in the local culture and fund your journey. After all, you’ll find that your savings won t amount to much when exchanged for euros. The UK, Germany, London, and Spain are a few of the most popular places for Americans looking for work in Europe.

Before you pack your bags, consider the following:

  • How long do you want to work in Europe?
  • In which country do you want to work?
  • Will you need to take language classes?
  • Are you able to/do you need to acquire a work permit?
  • Are you interested in teaching English?

Great for backpackers, these jobs usually don’t require a work permit and pay in cash. Farms and vineyards are always looking for short-term employees. If you want to visit Europe during the summer months, consider being a camp couns ... Read more »

These websites are high recommended because of the cheapest flights, hotels, packages.

If you are interested in book a vacation package, you can try the websites above and you can choose an excellent vacation package if you simply follow these instructions:

1. Where are you going? The best place to go on vacation depends in the person, for me the best place will be Europe.

You have to think in this to see which place visit, and also you have to think of the plane tickets, if they are not expensive and if they are not with too many conditions and terms.

2. Where are you going to stay? This is a tricky question, well if you have family, friends, or anyone that you know, you can stay with he/she and maybe he can take you to turistic places, or if you don t have anyone: you can take a breath and rent a room in a hotel, well some hotels are really expensive; but you can find a good, comfortable and cheap hotel. (In the packages it s included)
