The southern coast of Turkey enjoys a Mediterranean climate, where temperatures rarely drop below 18C, making it perfect for beach holidays. The north of the country can get slightly cooler so make sure you wrap up warm when exploring Istanbul during the winter months.

Antalya  isalso known as the Capital of the Turkish Riviera. It has Blue Flag beaches and amazing water sports, including snorkelling, windsurfing and even banana boats! The surrounding countryside boasts lush pine forests and beautiful mountains, or for something a bit livelier, try the Dedeman Aquapark, where you even can swim with dolphins.

Alanya is just a two hour transfer from Antalya  airport, but you will find quiet fishing villages, a wealth of history and pretty beaches here. The best activities for seeing the surrounding areas include boat trips from the harbour to the enchanting caves, or scuba diving in the summer months. If you would rather stay on dry land then try the jeep safaris or quad bike tours – both offer a great way to explore the countryside.

Kaleici , the historic walled city, has some amazing architecture from the Roman times and the Ottoman Empire, including the pretty harbour where you can watch the yachts go by from one of the nearby restaurants.

The main sights of Side  are the Roman ruins and the clothes markets and shops. Haggling is expected here. so try your hand at it to bring back some unique souvenirs at great prices– a must for a traditional Turkish experience.

Olu Deniz. also known as Blue Lagoon, is probably one of the most photographed beaches in Europe, with the beautiful green peninsula jetting out into the bright blue sea. As one of the most popular beach destinations in Turkey, you can simply soak up the sun and the gorgeous surroundings from its Blue Flag beach, or try your hand at paragliding which will give you amazing views of the peninsula from the air.

If you are looking for an active adventure holiday then Fethiye, on the sunny south coast of Turkey, is a haven for yachting, hiking and even paragliding. It’s home to the stunning Saklikent Gorge, where you can trek through rivers or explore the area on a jeep safari. You can take the plunge and enjoy a spot of river rafting, or just sit at one of the eateries overlooking the river at the end of the trail.

It is virtually impossible to get bored in Hisaronu – from horse riding tours to boat trips to see the Loggerhead turtles that live in the area, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There is no shortage of day trips if you want to explore your surroundings, and the markets are great for practising your haggling skills.

Marmaris is one of the main tourist destinations in Turkey – expect long sandy beaches with plenty of restaurants and bars for refreshments throughout the day, water sports, museums and water parks. The marina is a picturesque setting for lunch, dinner, shopping or simply watching the yachts go by with a drink in hand.

Ankara city  is the second largest city in Turkey after Istanbul and it’s split between the cosmopolitan city streets where you will find local university students and a lively nightlife, and the cobbled streets of the Old Town. It claims to be the home of Angora goats, so a trip to the bazaar in the Old Town is a great place to pick up souvenirs.

Istanbul  is the only city in the world to cover both Europe and Asia and if you are looking for a fun city break with culture, nightlife and sightseeing, then Istanbul is one of the best. The Bosphorus River divides the city in two, and a boat trip is one of the best ways to start off your city tour. Must-sees include the Grand Bazaar, a traditional Hammam, the Blue Mosque and lunch or dinner at one of the seafood restaurants along the river.

Bodrum  is one of the most popular areas in Turkey thanks to its sandy coves and scenic coastline. As well as beach holidays, Bodrum makes an excellent base for exploring some of the historical sites in Turkey like Ephesus. For something a bit different, the local airport offers two-seater micro-light flights above the city for a birds-eye view of the twinkling lights. Head to Altinkum for secluded beaches and to Kusadasi for the nightlife – getting around Bodrum is easy thanks to the reliable bus services. (Tip: you can stop these buses by the side of the road, there doesn’t necessarily have to be a stop there!)

Turgutreis is a picturesque town in Bodrum where you can explore the fruit orchards and sit in one of the countryside cafes with a traditional tea. Laze around on the dark sand beaches before trying out one of the seafood restaurants and lively nightlife.
