#Adventure Travel Africa in South Africa - information on budget travel, accommodation, Pretoria, budget kruger national park safari camping tours, overland expeditions, car hire and rental, youth hostels, lodges kruger park

Adventure Travel Africa is all about Africa travel. We previously used travel in Africa dot co za but we have decided about 2 months ago to use our dot com site - adventure travel africa. Both travel in africa as well as adventure travel africa is recognised by the Registrar as our trademarks. We officially traded in 1997 as both travel in africa as well as adventure travel africa. Although we have registered numerous Africa travel sites and run an Africa Travel Centre as well we do not trade under these names. We own africa travel centre dot info as well as africa center dot com. However we are not the backpack or africa travel centre in cape town. We are also not the africa adventure travel centre also in cape town. We also have very little to do with all the other travel centres in cape town - adventure village, the nomad adventure centre, detour, one world, OVC and captour. We use nomad though as a overland operator as we have found the nomad tours to be great. We are also not members of captour, fedhasa or satsa.

In johannesburg there is also a couple of confusing issues. We registered backpack in africa dot coza in jan 1999 and within 2 months this backpacking site was on yahoo. at the same time we registered travel in africa - also on yahoo. as time passed the backpackers site didn't really grow much but the travel site did. the backpacking site is of course called just that - backpack in africa. However, there is another site called backpackafrica. We are most definately not on friendly terms with backpackafrica. In fact; backpack africa have committed trademark infringements and defamation against us. It's no use going after them though as they have very little. In fact. backpackafrica used to own a backpackers hostel in johannesburg.

Unfortunately as so many other hostels in jo'burg; they had to close down as well. There is also another hostel in jo'burg that uses backpackin'africa and that is the backpackers ritz of johannesburg. I have absolutely no problem with that as they probably have the best and safest hostel in johannesburg. There is however someone other than backpack africa that passes off as us and that is africa centre from jo'burg. Although they are not actually situated in johannesburg or pretoria, they blatantly will tell you that they are from this or that hostel. Beware of Africa Centre.

We know quite a bit about trademark infringements as we have lost a case against lonely planet publications. Although we never tried to pass off as lonely planet we got nailed. We never intended to pass off, we didn't even use lonely planet 's tradename in our keywords. So that is why we are clearly stating which companies we are not - we definately do not want a corporate terrorism assault against us again by someone like lonely planet or their mates, the backpack, africa travel centre, explorers club or rocky street backpackers.
