Review sites such as Trust Pilot are a great way to learn more about a travel insurance company and understand other customers experiences. But how can you use these sites to get an accurate portrayal of the company you re thinking of buying with?

What travel insurance review sites can you trust?

There are lots of review sites out there but not all of them are reliable. So how do you tell the difference? Firstly, make sure the site is validated and operating as a trusted website. It s also important that the reviews come from customers, and not just word of mouth .

Trust Pilot is a great place to start. Take a look at the reviews have the customers made any claims? What are the specific features or benefits they liked about the travel insurance provider? Does it look like the reviews have been incentivised in any way?

Three signs of fake travel insurance reviews

1. Look at multiple reviews and particularly the publish dates - a spike in positive reviews in a short period is a common sign of 'Astro-turfing'
2. Look at language, tone and vocabulary. Are there any spelling or gramatical errors or do they all sound as if they've been written by a copy-writer or marketing agency?
3. Look at the profile of a review author - a profile that indicates they have just written a single review makes it less valuable as an indicator.
