Travel conditions - New Zealand Immigration Service
Travel conditions on temporary entry class visas state:
If you are offshore, the period of time within which you must enter New Zealand this is specified as first entry by on your visa
How many times you can use your visa to travel to New Zealand, for example whether it is valid for a single or multiple journeys
The last date that you can use your visa to travel back to New Zealand this is indicated by the expiry date travel on your visa.
If you are in New Zealand, make sure you check the travel conditions of your visa before travelling out of New Zealand. If you don t have valid travel conditions, you may need to vary the conditions of your visa to allow you to re-enter New Zealand.
Travel conditions on resident visas state:
the date by which you must travel to New Zealand as a resident (if you are outside New Zealand when your resident visa is granted). Note, if you do not travel to New Zealand within this date you must submit a new application for a residence class visa.
the last date you can use your visa to travel back to New Zealand as a resident. This is indicated as the expiry date travel on your visa. This will usually be for two years from your first day in New Zealand as a resident.
If you plan to leave New Zealand and return outside of the validity of your travel conditions, you should either apply for:
a permanent resident visa to allow you to return to New Zealand any time as a resident, or
a variation of travel conditions to extend the travel conditions on your resident visa
