Nearly half of all travel airfare is booked online so it pays to look online to get cheap airfare. With a little bit of legwork you'll be able to come up with the lowest best airfare deal and often save hundreds of dollars on your airline tickets in the process.

First of all the three major travel sites will often have different prices for the same flight. So go the easy way to Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity and look up and compare prices side by side. If you don't have to fly at a specific time of day, try typing in different times for your arrival and departure. Be as open as you can and experiment a little. The airfares on the flights that are less popular will save you the most money. You should find significant savings and often a different price for each of the travel sites.

You can save even more money if you avoid the booking tools on the travel website's home page. Instead go to the search optio ... Read more »

Spain s reputation as one of Europe s more affordable destinations began to vanish in 1999 when the country adopted the euro as its official currency, according to Frommer s. The Spanish tourism industry has boomed since then, driving up prices on everything from airfare and hotels to sightseeing and dining. Throngs of visitors travel to Spain each year to take in the country s attractive beaches, ancient architecture and vibrant culture. Spain may no longer rank among the least expensive spots in Europe, but savvy individuals can still travel to Spain for cheap by using some budget-friendly tactics for their trip.

International flights to Spain can be very costly. The World 66 Travel Guide suggests visiting during the winter off-season to save money. Excluding the Christmas and New Year holiday period, airfare to Spain tends to cost significantly less in the winter ... Read more »

Travel pillows have become a hot topic of conversation in most travel circles: both in person and on the Internet. This is due in large part to the airlines, which have decreased service levels. The small pillow provided by the airlines is often no longer available. Or, the aircraft stocks only enough pillows to provide one pillow to every third passenger. To be comfortable these days, you need to bring your own.

Travel pillows can support a traveler's neck, or, another critical part of the anatomy used heavily in travel--your backside. Recent changes in the airline industry have meant that planes are more crowded and seats more often used. As a result, you may find yourself in a seat that is fatigued. In that case, consider a self-inflating seat cushion that you can use to augment the sorry cushion provided by the airline.

A good travel pillow aids the traveler: it needs to be compact as well as versatile. Most better travel pillows are inflatable for this reason. W ... Read more »

Graco knows that great parenting means focusing more on baby and not on folding a darn stroller.

The FastAction has all the travel system essentials – a stroller, a detachable carseat, and a base. But as the name suggests, the Graco FastAction Click Connect’s main highlight is its quick and effort-free folding procedure. All you really have to do is pull the red strap in the stroller seat and voila the stroller is folded and ready to be stashed away! A lot of moms and dads love this feature because they can fold the stroller in one hand, letting their other hand hold and comfort their baby.

We’d love to have some bicycle wheels under this stroller, but that’s new model altogether. Still, the FastAction passes SPEMS with flying colours, with remarkable marks in maneuverability and safety. The Click Connect 30 is a mid-price travel system that costs a reasonable $189. Initially founded as the 'Govan Minibus Company' after bus deregulation, it provided strong competition to Strathclyde Buses in the Govan area of Glasgow by operating cheaper minibuses instead of Strathclyde's then full-size buses. Strathclyde countered the threat with minibuses of their own, known as 'Your Wee Happy Bus'. This was the first round of the 'Paisley bus wars' with many competing companies challenging for routes, threatening to bankrupt the larger companies, including Clydeside (now Arriva Scotland West ). The bus wars failed to stop the progress of the company, which was competing on a number of key routes with Strathclyde. After First Group purchased Strathclyde's Buses, Govan Minibus Company lost its operating licence when it was revoked by VOSA. The company changed direction away from mini-buses and was re-opened as 'First Stop Travel', usually shorted to F.S.T.

The company still had a large patronage on the former Govan Minibus Company routes and exploited ... Read more »

I was recently trying to buy a cheap plane ticket to China and realized that without knowing it, I had actually crafted myself a really good system for getting cheap airfare. This week s video discusses my routine and gives you tips and websites for getting the best deals.

[Note: Depending on how you are reading this, you may need to click through to the post to see the video!]

My airfare search routine involves the following major steps:

  1. Don t fly if you don t have to Generally speaking, buses, trains and cars are cheaper than flights. If you are flexible and adventurous, consider search craigslist for people looking for other to transport stuff from to the destination of your choice.
  2. Use Airline Miles I use United Airlines for most of my milage flights for their destination selection and their frequent upgrades. For someone living in the States, I have found United is best for international flig ... Read more »

Saugatuck and Douglas are neighboring beach cities in Southwest Lower Michigan on Lake Michigan and the Kalamazoo River. With sand dunes to the west and orchards to the east, this area, known as the "art coast of Michigan," has been awarded several designations, as reported by the Saugatuck-Douglas official website. The 19th-century architecture along with bed and breakfast inns on the National Register of Historic Places, combined with dozens of art galleries and natural resources caused the National Trust for Historic Preservation to name Saugatuck-Douglas one of its "2015 Dozen Distinctive Destinations." Conde Nast named Oval Beach one of the "25 top beaches" in the world, while MTV named Oval Beach one of the "top five beaches" in the country. National Geographic Traveler designated it one of the top two in the nation. Ferry rides, dune rides, galleries, boating, swimming, shopping, fishing, dining and golf are featured activities in the Saugatuck-Douglas area.

Peru is a country in South America. situated on the western side of that continent, facing the South Pacific Ocean and straddling part of the Andes mountain range that runs the length of South America. Peru is bordered by Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, and Chile to the south. Peru is a country that has a diversity and wealth not common in the world. The main attractions are their archaeological patrimony of pre-Columbian cultures and the hub of the Inca's empire, their gastronomy, their colonial architecture (it has imposing colonial constructions) and their natural resources (a paradise for ecological tourism).

Although Peru has rich natural resources and many great places to visit, the poverty scale reaches 25.8% of the population. The rich, consisting mostly of a Hispanic (or "Criollo") elite, live in the cities. Nevertheless, most Peruvians are great nationalists and love their country with pride (largely stemming from Peru's hi ... Read more »

The bus service in Croatia is first class: from frequent express buses that cover longer distances that are reasonably comfortable right down to bus connections between the smallest villages in the country. The train network in Croatia is somewhat on the limited side (as there s no train service that travels along the coast), so travelling by bus is far preferable. Bus travel in Croatia is also inexpensive, and the newish motorways that exist in parts of the country have reduced journey times considerably.

In almost every larger town, there is a large (or large-ish) bus terminal (autobusni kolodvor ) where tickets are sold and timetables are clearly displayed.

Previously I mentioned that I managed to bag super affordable tickets to Paris, thanks to a flight comparison website.

There are a couple of sites offering the same service, but the mother of all flight comparison websites has got to be Momondo. It not only compares airfares from many different airlines, it also saves your time but helping  you compare deals from other flight comparison websites.

Spring break is already upon us, and if you’re looking to plan an upcoming summer vacation, the best travel rewards credit cards can help you come up with some extra savings on airfare, hotels, and general travel. All of these top travel cards offer lucrative points bonuses and superb options to earn and use points for maximum value.

America Online will unveil on Monday a preview version of the travel information search site it announced in November in partnership with Kayak Software, maker of a travel search engine.

With the site, called Pinpoint Travel. AOL aims to tap into the growing market of online travel, in which users increasingly demand functionality to search airfare and hotel options, says Jeff DeKorte, vice president and general manager of AOL Travel.

There are two types of online travel buyers: one is loyal to a particular travel site, while the other likes to shop around and search for the best deals. Pinpoint Travel has been designed to serve the latter type of buyer, DeKorte says.

"This other group is really very different. They lack brand loyalty. They don't use just one site all the time. Instead, price and convenience are the main criteria guiding their search," DeKorte says.

The travel information contained in Pinpoint Travel isn't unilaterally harvested by AO ... Read more »

Escape to NZ in a Campervan!

“Look, Mom, the freedom to sleep around!”

Perhaps not the best way to start a three-week vacation in New Zealand with your mother, but the catchy slogan for Escape Rentals bypassed the traffic signals between my brain and my mouth. Fortunately, my mom was keen for an adventure, and the idea of living out of a campervan decorated with hearts and peace signs and going by the name of “Woodstock” didn’t have her looking for the first shuttle back to the Auckland airport.

Our Escape van came with everything we needed to survive on the road and then some; stove, sink, cooler, double bed, linens, foldable chairs for relaxing on the beach, dishes and cutlery, a bedside lamp and endless add-ons ranging from picnic table to solar shower. Each of the company’s 250 vans has its own unique paint job, decorated at the whim of local artists and giving my mom and me a unique sidekick to feature in snapshots for our family and friends back home. A travel buddy can make vacationing a lot less lonely and a lot more fun. (Photo: young couple at beach image by Accent from Fotolia )

Single people who like to travel sometimes feel scared or anxious to do so alone. Other times, one half of a married couple might have the travel bug but the other is a homebody. Still others enjoy the thrill of traveling with a new friend or meeting a relative stranger who will serve as a travel guide in an unfamiliar or exotic location. Finding a travel buddy with whom you connect takes a bit of gumption, a bit of courage and a bit of old-fashioned homework.

Step 1

Go to websites such as TravBuddy, TravelFriend or TravelersMeeting. On most travel buddy websites, you'll register and then create a user name, password and profile. From there you can explore domestic and international destinations, find travelers with similar interests and passions and contact them via email.

Step 2

I absolutely HATE being cold. As cozy as it is to snuggle up under the covers or drink a hot cup of cocoa, being cold is still one of the most uncomfortable, irritating feelings for me. I will easily let my home get hotter than most would think comfortable in the summer, but in the winter my power bill doubles because I refuse to be cold in my own home. I ve lived in the southern US for over 15 years, and I think it gets too cold in the winter.

I ve read about the idea of backpackers on their round the world trips who chase the summer. They plan their trips so that they re always in a warm place, whether that s because of the season or the geographic location. I haven t taken a round the world trip (yet?) so I ve really only done short trips, 3 weeks at most besides my 6 week study abroad trip to Spain. I ve traveled to Europe so many times I can t count anymore, always between May and August. I ve been to South America in January and February, when it s summer there. I was ... Read more »

Africa is a huge and diverse continent, so travel "must haves" vary from country to country. (Photo: africa image by Luka76 from Fotolia )

Planning for travel to any of the wide variety of destinations in Africa need not be any more complicated than for any other destination. There are, however, a number of must haves that will aid you with preparation for your trip, and furthermore upon arrival. Some facilitate a smooth travel experience; others are essential for your personal health and safety.

The Internet and up-to-date guidebooks for your specific destination are invaluable when it comes to planning travel to Africa. Visit the US Department of State s travel site, travel.state.gov, and read current international travel warnings for your destination, if there are any. Stay on that site to find country-specific information for more about the country s tourism industry and infrastructure, and whether any particular regions of the country should be avoided.

For those willing to look for them, there are plenty of travel bargains to be found. From deeply discounted cruises to cheap flights, generally all you need to do is keep an eye out. However, truly exceptional deals often come at the last moment, and to find those deals you have to look a little harder.

Step 1

Pack a bag. The more quickly you are able to leave the better, so pack a travel bag with a few changes of clothes, your bathing suit, and some paperbacks. When you re ready to leave, add final essentials like toiletries and medications and you re ready to hit the road.

Step 2

Plan your schedule. To take advantage of a last-minute travel deal you will need house sitters, vacation time and any other necessities lined up in advance. No, you won t be able to take the time off until your trip is booked, but you can certainly make sure everyone expects that you will be leaving on shor ... Read more »

It s not, of course -- I tend to fill the margins with words I want to look up, like mysterious road sign instructions seen while bouncing along in a bus ( I wonder if this sign means Curve of Death Ahead . ). Travel journaling is not a serious biz -- just a way to track your action

Iceland . (Icelandic: Island ) is a mountainous island nation in the north Atlantic Ocean, located between Europe and North America. Though not part of the continental mainland, the country is considered Nordic European. The name of the country—Iceland—may not be that appropriate: although 10% of Iceland is covered by glaciers, it has a surprisingly mild climate and countless geothermal hot-spots. The native spelling ("Island") is appropriate in English as well.

Iceland is a stunningly beautiful place if you enjoy strange and desolate landscapes. Because it is so close to the Arctic Circle, the amount of daylight varies dramatically by season. The sun sets briefly each night in June, but it doesn't get fully dark before it comes back up again. In the March and September equinoxes, days and nights are of about equal length, as elsewhere in the world. If you go in December, it's almost 20 hours of darkness. Summer is definitely the best time to go, and even then ... Read more »

I was a little confused that it was in the Cirque du Soliel group because I'd see other shows and couldn't imagine how Criss Angel could fit into that type of show. I was sadly disappointed with the show. The.

One of the biggest questions for anyone who s planning a trip to Italy is what to do about buying Italy train tickets. Should I get a rail pass? Should I buy tickets in advance? Should I wait to buy tickets as I go? There are a few options in this department, and the best one for you will depend on the kind of trip you re taking (among other things), but here are some things to think about when you re looking at buying Italian train tickets.

As the Italian rail network has added more high-speed trains and raised ticket prices as a result and especially since Italy is now part of the European Union and no longer on the lira currency, that blanket advice no longer applies to everyone.

We offer tours and travel to Kyrgyzstan, and also visa, and accommodation for Central Asia, which is one of the finest regions for tourism in the world with its natural beauty (the finest example is Kyrgyzstan) and man-made beauty. It has created such a deep impression in the minds of people who have visited this region that several writers have drawn inspiration from it, and conducted imaginary tours to mythical cities such as Shangri-La and Xanadu, both of which were located in Central Asia or in Kyrgyzstan, even in fiction! You guys, the temps are starting to drop as fast as crimson and golden leaves from trees, so it's high time to daydream about sand beaches, sunny skies, and fruity cocktails. We already talked about how hot the city of Fort Lauderdale is for the average sun seeker, but more and more it's overtaking Miami as an LGBT destination.

The city was recently named the "The Destination of the Year" by ManAboutWorld, as the top city for gay, lesbian and transgender visitors. Broward, the county that Fort Lauderdale calls home, is one of the most progressive in the U.S. from electing openly gay officials to passing same-sex domestic partnership benefits and barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and identity.

Fun fact: Fort Lauderdale was first US city to have a dedicated travel page for LGBT tourists, even integrating gay-friendly images to their mainstream tourism campaigns.
