Perth overview

When is the best time to fly to Perth?

Perth is Western Australia’s capital and its largest city. Famous for its big open spaces, dominant skyscrapers, wine-growing and laid-back lifestyle, Perth offers a unique blend of urban and natural landscapes. Most travellers arrive on cheap flights to Perth during the summer holidays for the various events and festivals taking place. The annual Perth Festival and Swan Valley midsummer feast are just two of the popular summer events. Prices for flight tickets rise in the summer months, which can be hot but the perfect time to hit the stunning white sand beaches for a dip and watersports, or cool off in the shady national parks that border the city. Another peak holiday time is during the July school holidays, when cheap flights to Perth are harder to find.

Perth experiences nearly year round sunshine, the winters are mild with average daily temps around 15C. The majority of the rainfall occurs in the winter months with showers, gale force winds and thunderstorms prevalent. May and June are the heaviest rainfall months, so pack wet weather gear if arriving on flights to Perth during this period.

The shoulder seasons of autumn and spring are generally less busy and a nice time to visit Perth if you want to avoid the hot summer weather. Autumn though still warm enough for sailing and watersports, doesn’t have the intense heat which in February can be 40C or higher. Spring might still have the odd rain shower but the landscape blooms with wildflowers. The cheapest flights to Perth are in March, and the most expensive are in January.
