Comparatively inexpensive lodging for families in central London

London is far from cheap.  However, we were happy overall with our stay at this Travelodge despite the negative reviews here.

Positives:

+ Comparatively inexpensive for central London for a family of 4.  We spent 129 pounds for one night (a Friday night).  This included a good queen sized bed, and a sofa that opened up with two twin mattresses.

+ Location is excellent-- 2 blocks from British Museum, and a 0.2 mile walk from the Covent Garden Underground station (and associated market).

+ Clean-- no bugs, has TV in room.  Other reviewers commented that rooms were unclean or stank-- we did not notice this at all.  We also found the bed fine, not hard/ uncomfortable as others said.  And we didn t notice any noise at all.  It s possible there are issues with one building and not the other, since we were in what seemed to be the newer building?  We all slept just fine.

+ Free wifi in lobby, though a bit inconsistent in how well it worked.  10 pounds to get decent wifi for 24-hours in the room (I uploaded a

500MB video to YouTube in 50 minutes).

+ Option to add breakfast in hotel.  Not cheap (13.30 pounds), but adds convenience.  If you re leaving early, tell the staff, and they ll let you have at least a cold breakfast early.

Negatives:

- Check-in seemed a bit chaotic.  They want you to use computers to check in if you reserved online, but they seemed a bit understaffed when we went in terms of helping if you have questions (like how to access the wifi).  There are also two buildings, and it was unclear which one we were supposed to go to initially.

- No phone in room.  No phone for any customer use at all, either-- they declined when we asked in the lobby to use one for a toll-free call to the airline.

Synopsis:

If you re going with a family of 4, this combination of price/ location is quite competitive.  Sure, you can stay elsewhere for less, but you ll likely sacrifice on one or more of the first three positives above.
