#Abang Africa - Travel with heart and soul

10 Days, 9 Nights on a self-drive tour. where you will explore the culture and history of the vibrant Johannesburg, the creative energy and tranquillity in the country village of Clarens and the beauty and unspoilt raw Africa in the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Enjoy lots of golden hues and contrasting landscapes in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the dragon mountains of the Drakensberg, and the arts and crafts in the Natal Midlands. 

Day 1 Johannesburg

Arrival in Johannesburg where you will meet our local representative. You will receive all the required information for your journey. Transport to your accommodation is arranged. Depending on the time of arrival you have the opportunity to explore Johannesburg further.

Day 2 Johannesburg to Clarens (300km)

Your rental car will be delivered to your accommodation, from where you will make your way to the charming little countryside village of Clarens. Nestled in the protective arms of the Maluti Mountains, with the brooding mountain Kindgom of Lesotho looking down upon it, this quaint little town overlooks fertile farmlands set amidst stunning highland landscapes. Given its setting, Clarens has become a haven of tranquillity for artists, solitude seekers and nature lovers alike and offers numerous art galleries, craft shops and restaurants.

Overnight: Guest house, Clarens, incl. breakfast.

Day 3 Clarens to Lesotho (300km)

Sheer and magnificent mountains. Blanket clad horsemen wearing woven pointed hats sitting astride their stocky steeds. The wild and untamed raw beauty of a rural land untouched by the passage of time. This is the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho and it is yours to explore for the next 3 nights.

Overnight: Malealea Lodge Pony Trek, Lesotho, incl. breakfast and a selection of activities including a day pony trek and a hike.

Day 4 Lesotho

Today you will take a pony trek (with the option of a hike or a scenic drive if you would prefer) to the Botsoela Waterfall and to a nearby gorge that boasts Bushman paintings done by the San people nearly 500 years ago. You will get to witness the tranquil pace of rural life as you pass by Basotho villages and shepherds with their cattle, sheep and goats out grazing on the land.

Day 6 Lesotho to Golden Gate Highlands National Park (320km)

Today you will cross the border back into South Africa and make your way back towards Clarens. 20km east of Clarens is the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, so named for the glorious shades of gold cast by the sun over the park’s sandstone cliffs. Keeping vigil over the main rest camp is the imposing Brandwag Rock. Tucked high up on the mountain’s edge, with jaw-dropping views over the rolling grasslands and golden sandstone hills onto the black magnificence of the Drakensberg and Maluti Mountains, is your accommodation for the night.
