- Money Savings. Trains are an increasingly cost-effective alternative to planes. In the UK and some other countries you can easily find train travel deals or discounts, for example, when booking your online ticket in advance (you can book train tickets up to 12 weeks in advance) or when doing group bookings (for 4 people or more).
- Stable Fares. Airlines’ pricing changes every minute and it can be really frustrating. Train fares, however, tend to remain stable, day after day on any particular route, whether it s Monday or Saturday, April or August, two months in advance or two days before departure.
- Flexibility. Trains tend to offer travellers a great deal of flexibility. If you missed the 10am train you can catch the following train at 10.30 or 11.00am. For short trips you can simply show up at the station the same day of your trip and grab a ticket for the next train without paying extra.
- More baggage. In general, travellers do not have baggage restrictions. They don’t have to pay extra to check their suitcases in and there aren’t as many restrictions as travelling by plane.
- Less hassle. Travellers do not need to arrive two hours in advance at the station, wait in a long queue for the security control, take off their shoes for inspections, or ration out their liquids and gels. Travelling by train means arriving 30 minutes ahead of time (at the most) and walking straight to the platform. Regular, punctual train services make getting around pleasant and hassle-free.
- Door-to-Door convenience. Unlike airports, most major train stations are located right downtown in the heart of cities. This means that instead of taking a prior transportation before arriving at the airport, travellers can go on foot from their house / hotel.
- Eco-Friendliness. Trains are more energy-efficient per passenger mile than planes or cars, making them one of the most eco-friendly transportation options. As a bonus, the relative energy-efficiency of trains means that the industry is less vulnerable to increases in fuel prices making train fares more stable.
- Old -Fashioned Charm. There’s something refreshingly traditional about taking a train, particularly if you’re traveling over a long, multi-night route. During the day, many train travellers choose to read books, play cards or simply enjoy the landscape.
- Comfort and relaxation. Travelling by train is one of the least stressful forms of transportation. Seats are spacious, with plenty of leg room for you to stretch out and relax. The aisles are normally wide and offer you the chance to walk about.
- Beyond just transportation. Unlike airplanes, which whisk you from point A to point B with barely a glimpse of what’s in between, a train ride can be a destination in and of itself. Travelling by train allows you to look ing out the window and enjoy ing an ever-changing, endlessly entertaining variety of towns, countryside and jaw-dropping landscapes.
