#Greek travel advice: Do tourists have cause for concern? ITV News

Queues build at Greek ATMs Photo: REUTERS/Stefanos Rapanis

Over the weekend, the Foreign Office updated its advice for people travelling to Greece. In short: bring lots of extra cash.

With the country in the throes of an escalating debt crisis, tourists are right to be worried - but with a little preparation, your holiday should be fine. But what else should you look out for?

The money issue is obviously the big one, and the threat that Greece might default on its debts and leave the Euro is increasingly real.

Will I be able to withdraw cash from banks and ATMs?

According to the FCO, visitors to Greece should be aware of the possibility that banking services – including credit card processing and servicing of ATMs – throughout Greece could potentially become limited at ... Read more »

#Health Information for Travelers to Canada - Traveler view

Vaccines and Medicines

You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some vaccines may also be required for travel.

Ask your doctor what vaccines and medicines you need based on where you are going, how long you are staying, what you will be doing, and if you are traveling from a country other than the US.

You can get hepatitis B through sexual contact, contaminated needles, and blood products, so CDC recommends this vaccine if you might have sex with a new partner, get a tattoo or piercing, or have any medical procedures.

  • Travelers involved in outdoor and other activities in remote areas that put them at risk for bat bites or other animal bites (such as adventure travel and caving).
  • People who will be working with or around animals (such as wildlife professionals and researchers).

#Hotels in Bermuda

Few places in the world boast the charm of Bermuda's curvaceous, colorful shoreline. It's a boon, then, that the lagoons, coves, and coasts, as well as its inland sanctuaries, are filled with equally colorful, alluring places to stay. But wherever you opt to stay, you are never far away from picture-perfect water views. The quintessential accommodation on the island is a pink cottage amid

manicured gardens and coral-stone pathways. Terraced whitewashed roofs (designed to capture rainwater) sit atop walls of pinks, peaches, and pastels, looking like cakes of ice cream in pink-wafer sand. Add a waterfront setting, and voilà—the lure of Bermuda.

If you find yourself craving a beachfront resort, and you can afford it, several places offer quality right-on-the-sand stays; another handful are a stone's throw away from the beach. The island is blessed with clean, well-maintained public beaches that are easily reached by bus and aren't far from any point o ... Read more »

#How to Travel the World on $50 USD per Day

“The bible of budget travel.” – BBC

Do you want to travel more but think its expensive? Would you like to find a way to make travel more affordable?

I used to see the commercials, watch the ads, and read the magazines and think Ill never be able to afford to travel. There just didnt seem like anything I could do to ever change that. Even if I could get that extra vacation time, hotels, flights, resorts they were all too expensive.

But then I went to Thailand and everything changed.

In 2005, I was on a vacation to Thailand with my friend Scott. We were in Chiang Mai to visit some temples and one day, I left Scott to visit a large temple outside of town on my own. I was in a shared taxi with five other people (three Canadians and a couple from Belgium).

On the way up to the temple, we started talking. The Canadians were on a break from work and traveling until their money ran out and the couple was usi ... Read more »

#How Long Does it Take to Become a Travel Agent?

Vangelis Thomaidis

As the industry continues to consolidate and more people turn to the Internet to make their own travel arrangements, the need for education for travel agents becomes more urgent. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most travel agent jobs do not require more than a high school education, but travel agencies are increasingly seeking a college degree in addition to business and travel experience.

Trade Schools

A certificate from a travel trade school such as the Travel Academy can be earned in about eight to 16 weeks, depending on the number of hours a student devotes to classes. Intense training through trade schools focuses on the hands-on skills needed to work in the field. A curriculum that prepares a travel agent to work in an agency includes instruction on airport codes and airport gate procedures, cruise line operations, geography, tour companies, and how to us ... #How to Get the Cheapest Price on Airfare

(Reuters)

Airfare tends to be the most cost-prohibitive part of planning a vacation or trip. And with delayed flights, over-crowded cabins, excess fees and no free food, it’s surprising that airlines are able to charge such high tickets prices.

During the course of a day, prices fluctuate depending on availability. “Airfare is the most volatile part of traveling compared to the price of hotels or cruises,” says Gabe Saglie, senior editor at Travelzoo.

Despite the abundance of metasearch engines, like Kayak, Google Flights, or Fly.com, and online travel agencies (OTAs), finding the lowest-priced airfare is still a tedious process. “There’s not one place or website where you can find the absolute lowest price,” says John DiScala, editor in chief of JohnnyJet.com. “It changes every minute and it takes time to find the cheapest price.”

To simplify your search, setting up daily or weekly price alerts will help yo ... Read more »

#How to travel in Europe - Lonely Planet

by Sarah Baxter Feb 20 2012

Fifty sovereign states. 10,180,000 sq km. 738,200,000 people. The word ‘Europe ’ does little to convey the diversity found within, which can make it a bewildering place to travel. So here’s a handy guide to your transport options:

Car

Budget:  medium-high (London-Prague petrol from EUR360 return, plus car hire cost).

Ideal time frame:  2-4 weeks.

So?  Expensive flexibility.

With petrol costs soaring, driving yourself around Europe is increasingly pricey. If hiring a car or camper, add this cost too (note, fees for picking up/dropping off cars in different countries are huge), plus road tolls and multi-country car insurance. You also need an International Driving Permit.

Cram several people into your own car, however, and costs can be shared. And you have the ultimate freedom to explore, unbeholden to public ... Read more »

#How to: Travel to Antarctica - Matador Network

First question: Should you go? Second question: How should you go? Info and links to answer both.

The Debate: Should You Go?

There are several arguments against traveling to Antarctica, all of which need to be considered before trip planning begins:

Safety Concerns

Antarctica is an inhospitable place. There are no nor have there ever been permanent human inhabitants of the continent. Frequent storms on land and sea and the coldest temperatures, driest air, and strongest winds on the planet are a constant threat, even to those who know what they re doing.

There s no governing body in Antarctica, no one with unilateral authority to control where people go, what they do, or to ensure their safety.

In November of 2007, the tourist vessel M/S Explorer struck an unidentified object. Its doubly reinforced steel hull was punctured, and 20 hours later the ship was completely sub ... Read more »

Around 220,000 British nationals visit Indonesia every year. Most visits are trouble free.

There is a high threat from terrorism. Terrorist groups continue to plan attacks and have the capacity and intent to carry out these attacks at anytime and anywhere in the country. You should be particularly vigilant during holiday periods such as Easter, Christmas, New Year, Nyepi (Balinese New Year, 21 March) and Independence Day (17 August). #Iceland - Lonely Planet

The energy is palpable on this magical island, where astonishing natural phenomena inspire the welcoming, creative locals and draw an increasing number of visitors in search of splendour.

Why I Love Iceland

By Carolyn Bain, Author

It's hard to answer this without either gushing embarrassingly, or resorting to clichés (OK, I'll admit it, Iceland makes me want to grow up to become a birdwatching vulcanologist who plays in a band). Like everyone, on my first visit l was awestruck by the landscapes. On subsequent visits, the beauty of those same landscapes can still reduce me to tears – but the locals are what affirm my love for Iceland. Their resourcefulness, quirkiness, interconnectedness and warmth is unparalleled; on this research trip, every day presented human stories and interactions that rivaled Icelandic nature for beauty.

Well known for its warm weather, slow pace of life and cultural history, Jamaica is a developing country in the Caribbean with a generally laid-back attitude. Tourism is a major industry, and documents required to enter the country are minimal compared to those of many other nations. Required paperwork for travel to Jamaica depends on your country of citizenship and the purpose and length of your visit.

A passport is the preferred document for all international travel. Jamaica accepts expired passports of U.S. and Canadian citizens, provided that they have not been expired for longer than 12 months. But note that the U.S. requires anyone returning to the U.S. by air to have a valid, non-expired passport. #Jamaica - Lonely Planet

Jamaica has long been a jewel in the Caribbean tourism industry crown, but there’s far more to discover than just beaches and all-inclusive resorts.

Island Riddims

With Bob Marley, Jamaica gifted us the first global superstar from the developing world. But he didn’t spring from nowhere – this tiny island has musical roots that reach back to the folk songs of West Africa and forward to the electronic beats of contemporary dancehall. Simply put, Jamaica is a musical powerhouse, a fact reflected not just in the bass of the omnipresent sound systems, but in the lyricism of the patois language and the gospel sounds from the island’s many churches. Music is life in Jamaica, and you’ll soon find yourself swaying along with it.

Jah’s Garden
