Because beach vacations are so popular, prices can be extremely high to rent a hotel room or condo directly on the beach. But great beach vacation rental deals are available to those who know where to look. Step 1 Consider military options. If anyone in your traveling party is an active duty or retired military or civilian Department of Defense member, you may be eligible to use military resorts and other perks. Many military resorts, such as those located at Camp Pendleton in California and on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, are directly on the beach. Rates are determined by pay grade, but even the highest rates are much lower than those charged at surrounding civilian resorts. Step 2 Consider a timeshare membership. Traditional timeshares entitle you to use the same condo during the same week each year. If you prefer more variety, consider buying into a points-based system. Your membership fee entitles you to a certain number of points each year that can be used at any resort within the timeshare system at any time you like. Weekend nights generally cost more points than mid-week stays, and holidays are the priciest. If you want the benefits of a timeshare but not the commitment, consider renting from a membership owner. When owners are unable to use their points, they often rent to non-members in exchange for cash. Search the Internet for rental communities that match owners and renters. Step 3 Look for private rentals. Many families own vacation cottages or condos at the beach that they use only a few times per year. When not in use by the family, those properties are often rented to vacationers through property management companies. Although some properties may be listed on the management company s website, call and speak with a representative to find the best deal on the type of property you desire. Step 4 Check into all-inclusive vacation packages. Although the initial sticker price might seem high, all-inclusive packages allow you to pay one bill in advance to cover your entire vacation. All-inclusive vacations typically include lodging, meals, activities, entertainment and even gratuities. Choose a traditional all-inclusive resort or create your own package at a major travel website such as Orbitz or Expedia. You can even include airfare and a rental car in the package price. Packages often include perks that are not available when booking everything separately, such as free nights or a major discount on airfare.
