(Photo: Photos by Leah Still ) There is no reason single travelers can t enjoy the same destinations as those with traveling companions. The best travel for singles takes them to places with easy-going locals who like to chat. It offers tours, has excellent dining options, is easy to get around, and makes it possible to find other like-minded visitors and activities to pass the time. Skiing is a solo sport, but the crowds that flock to Vail (the country s biggest ski resort), will keep you from feeling lonely, especially in the lift line. True, with the increase in iPod use on the slopes, chairlift chatter has slowed a bit, but skiers on holiday are friendly, open and ready to compare injuries, especially during apr s-ski cocktails at the bottom of the mountain. (Head to Garfinkel s at the base of the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead for a prime patio spot and prime flirting.) If you re not looking to meet anyone, you ll have no problem sticking to yourself--Vail has more than 5,000 skiable acres.
