You know it, I know it. Your neighbours surely agree. We don't talk about it, but the issue is always there. lurking over us.

Why is time travel a bad thing, he asked rhetorically? I'll tell you why. Just about every recorded instance of time travel in popular fiction either

  1. directly results in catastrophic damage to the timeline, requiring immense effort and jumping-through-hoops to even halfway-repair, OR
  2. is ITSELF a direct result of some sort of catastrophic accident so gigantic that it can only be corrected by ALTERING HISTORY ITSELF.

Let's take a typical example.

One fine day in 2027, your son, little Johnny X, stole Doc Atom's prototype Time Scooter to see what his doddering parents were really like when they were young. He went back to 2007 and met you! Keeping his real identity a secret, he set you up with the stunningly attractive bloke or gal you had always moped over but never had the nerve to ask out, and like a ... Read more »

Military discounts for travel, are basically opportunities for saving money on vacations and other travel related expenses. People who work for the military or have a military background can enjoy saving on flight tickets, hotel rooms, and car rentals or even on cruises. Five great travel booking sites

(Budget Travel) -- The following five sites have proven the most consistently useful for the editors of Budget Travel, who do thousands of searches a year.

Budget Travel editors reveal favorite online resources to book flights, hotels and other needs.

Dohop

Strictly for booking plane trips entirely outside of the U.S. such as a flight between Paris and Rome.

The site runs simultaneous searches of multiple airports serving the same city -- five airports in London, for instance -- and it retrieves fares from no-frills independent carriers like EasyJet and Ryanair, which many better-known travel sites overlook. That said, be warned that Dohop doesn't work nearly as well for booking airfares leaving the U.S.

Kayak

The all-time best site for finding the cheapest plane tickets in the U.S.

Our biggest beef with Kayak's competitors is that when you click to bo ... Read more »

In September 2015, I visited Reykjavik, Iceland with a good friend. We were only there for a 3-day weekend, but during that time, we met so many interesting people and fellow travelers that it inspired me to make up my own life plan. I ve been lucky enough to travel and study abroad throughout my life, and I see no reason why that should end with a full-time 9-5 job.

I started working two weeks before I had even graduated from university. Without any transition period between school and real-life, I spent most of my early 20s busy making a career and being responsible.

It wasn t until I met people my same age from all over the world (doing very different things than what I was doing) that I was inspired to take some action. It just seemed unfair to think they had all these amazing stories to tell, and here I was, beginning to feel more and more complacent in my generally comfortable life.

It was on my IcelandAir flight back from Reykjavik to Boston that I rea ... Read more »

My favorite part about living near Portland Oregon is its diversity. There is always a new area to explore or a fantastic restaurant to try. Portland is made up of many different neighborhoods that have their own distinctive vibe. Therefore, I have put together a list of 6 Fun Portland Neighborhoods:

Alberta Avenue This area is also referred to as the Alberta Arts District. It s a street lined with shops, galleries, restaurants and bars. Diverse Alberta offers food for every taste (vegan to carnivore), craving and budget. It is also known for its street fair which takes place on the last Thursday of every month.  Recommended Eateries: Enzo s Caffe Italiano, Back to Eden (Vegan Bakery)

The Pearl District This area is easily one of Portland s most desirable neighborhoods. It s located in the heart of downtown and shops and restaurants are within walking distance or a quick MAX ride away. Originally this area ... Read more »

Take one of the 6 5 pieces of Fabric A and the 6 8 piece of Fabric B and hem the top edge of both. These will be the left hand pockets.

Lay these two pocket pieces on top of the 6 10 piece of Fabric C, then lay the 6 10 piece of Fabric B on top of all that like a sandwich, right sides together. Stitch along the right hand side, through all the layers, 1/4 inch from the edge. Flip the top piece underneath so the wrong sides are together, and press the seam flat.

Top stitch the edge of this whole side pocket along the right side, 1/4 inch from the edge.  This is the completed left side of the organizer. You can repeat this for the right side if you re not comfortable sewing zippers, but I think its nice to have a few zippered pockets to keep change and other things in securely.

So for the left side, start by taking one of the 6 5 pieces of Fabric A and one of the 6 5 pieces of Fabric C as the lining. With right sides together, place one of your zippers in betwe ... Read more »

It is perfectly possible to visit the Cotswolds from London just for the day, but we recommend that you plan to stay at least one night in the Cotswolds for two reasons. Firstly, you will need time to enjoy the area and, secondly, early morning and evening are the most romantic times in the Cotswolds, often with glorious sunsets and beautiful early morning birdsong. In popular villages, you will also avoid the crowds and have more chance to meet local people.

The area is an excellent base for touring, ringed by Bath, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Tewkesbury.

Getting around the Cotswolds by Public Transport is easy. The Explore the Cotswolds by Public Transport Guide produced by the Cotswolds Conservation Board, and online timetables. are an invaluable information resource for travelling around the Cotswolds by bus and train. Alternatively, pick up a guide at one of the many visitor information centres in the and around the Cotswolds. ... Read more »

You may usually take one carry-on, one personal item (such as a purse or briefcase) and one checked bag without charge. Since summer 2010, most airlines charge for every second and subsequent checked bag. Between Canada and the U.S. and on some European carriers there is a fee for every checked bag. Check with your airline and code-share partners to ascertain current charges. Check bags online to access lower fees.

Carry-on items on flights originating in the U.S. usually have no weight restriction. Delta specifies a maximum of 11 lbs. Other carriers specify 15 lbs. Checked bags on economy flights originating in the U.S. must not exceed 50 lbs or you will be charged an overweight baggage fee. Restrictions vary with destination and ticket type. Always check with the airline.

On multi-carrier flights, ask which luggage policy they honor and get this in writing. Even when connecting airlines agree to honor the larger allowances of incoming American flights, this may not ... Read more »

There are a wide variety of travel reward cards available. Many of these specialize in helping you collect points to use with a particular travel company, such as an airline, hotel chain or even a theme park. Such cards may also allow you to redeem points for alternate rewards, but often at a lower rate of return.

Some of the specific cards of this type include:

  • American Express Delta Skymiles® credit card
  • Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express
  • Disney Rewards® VISA® card

Other travel credit cards are much more open and reward travelers much more equitably. The manner in which to accumulate reward points is the same from company to company. Usually, you get bonus rewards if you purchase from any airline or restaurant and lesser rewards for other purchases. When you redeem your points from this type of card you also get more choice in terms of where to do so. You are not stuck selecting from just one airline or just one ho ... Read more »

10 ways to find cheapest airline tickets:

1. Book airline tickets as soon as possible.

Buying an airline ticket well in advance of your departure increases your chances of finding the best prices. The closer the departure date, the higher ticket prices will be. Airlines sale tickets early to help fill seats so finding them cheaper on the last minute is rare. Low cost, traditional airlines offer the best when booking several months in advance.

While Placencia in southern Belize is the country’s best mainland beach, the most popular island is long, skinny Ambergris Caye. Ambergris’s main settlement, San Pedro, is probably the most cosmopolitan in Belize — yet it’s still quintessentially Caribbean. Just south of Ambergris Caye lies Caye Caulker. a smaller, funkier, and less expensive version of its big sister island.

Because the second largest coral reef in the world fully borders Belize, diving (or at least snorkeling) is a necessity. Both Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker are great bases to explore the reef and outlying cayes (like South Water Caye ). You can also take a boat trip out and dive the Great Blue Hole. a perfectly circular, ocean-locked sinkhole plummeting hundreds of feet.

Inland, heavily forested San Ignacio in the eastern region of Cayo is Belize’s adventure sports epicenter. In Orange Walk, the Maya ruins of Lamanai are worth a

Although several countries have laid claim to various portions of Antarctica, it is governed by the 1958 Antarctic Treaty, which establishes the continent as a peaceful and cooperative international research zone. There are no cities per se, just some two dozen research stations with a total population ranging from 1000-4000 depending on the time of year. These are maintained for scientific purposes only, and do not provide any official support for tourism. The laws of the nation operating each research station apply there.

Private travel to Antarctica generally takes one of three forms:

  1. commercial sea voyages with shore visits (by far the most popular)
  2. specially mounted land expeditions, or
  3. sightseeing by air.

Approximately 80 companies belong to the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. a membership organization which regulates non-research travel to the region. In the 2005-2006 summer season, an estimate ... Read more »

Being organised is totally overrated. If you're the spontaneous type (or maybe prefer leaving everything to the last minute) there are still ways to get great deals on hotels, accommodation and flights for that special getaway.

Before you get started, here are some general tips to help find the best deals:

Lexy Savvides/CNET

  • Always check the hotel or airline's site for a base price, then see if you can find it cheaper on a price comparison site.
  • When using comparison sites, check the terms and conditions. What you see might not be what you pay, if booking fees and charges are added on afterwards.
  • Join the hotel's loyalty program (if they have one) as you might get discounts on your stay or deals for food or entertainment.
  • Pick up the phone. Not to use an app, but to actually call someone from an airline or a hotel. You never know, you might end up with a great deal that no one else can find online. Sites like getaroom.com ... Read more »
