Spain, over its long history, has been part of the Roman, Greek and Muslim empires, and it has also been an empire itself. If history is your thing, you ll be amazed by what you find here! While visiting Spain you ll realize today Spain is a democratic multicultural nation where you ll find fascinating architecture, art, food, wine and cultural activities. Gaudi, Picasso, Dali and Goya were all born in Spain, and there are beautiful buildings and museums in which to enjoy their works. While travelling to Spain you ll see it is a country of contrast. In Barcelona you ll find museums devoted to Dali, Picasso and Miro. In Madrid don’t forget to visit El Museo del Prado. It s a magnificent building with incredible paintings by Spanish painters as Goya, Velazquez and Picasso. Once you ll be travelling around Spain and going up north, in Bilbao you ll want to see the Guggenheim Museum. an astonishing piece of architecture along the sea. Visit the Alhambra de Granada and the Mezquita (mosque) de Cordoba to enjoy the beauty of the Muslim buildings. The Mezquita de Cordoba is the third-largest mosque in the world, after Mecca and Istanbul s Blue Mosque. Andalucia, in the south, is renowned for its flamenco performances. I strongly recommend that you experience one of these shows for an authentic experience in the region where flamenco was born. London, Paris and Berlin are beautiful, interesting cities. I ve visited each of them more than once, and I recommend that you do the same. However, the weather in those cities is often less than inspiring. After all, rain is a frequent occurrence in northern Europe; snow, fog and low temperatures are of course normal in winter. Now, think about Greece, Italy and. Spain. Here it s beautiful in January, just as it is in August. For example, in 2015, Barcelona s peak August temperature was 35?C and the lowest in December was 10?C. However, if you re ever too cool on the peninsula, you can always take a two-hour flight to the Canary Islands and enjoy the nice, warm weather. If you re someone who likes winter sports, you don’t need to get a flight to the Alps. I have been to Camp Nou (BarcelonaFC stadium) many times, and I can assure you: It s an amazing experience even if you re not particularly sports-minded! If you re like me, though, and you don’t feel like getting stressed running in front of those huge animals, just go and enjoy the wild atmosphere from a vantage point above the street. La Tomatina, in Bunol (Valencia) is also a popular party. You d better see what it s all about before getting involved!!
