Ok, if you’ve made it this far then you’re ready to here what we believe everyone deserves to know: THE TRUTH about booking vacation packages and flights with these huge discount travel sites (the Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity conglomerate corporations out there).

So without further ado, here are the 3 important things you should know:

Book a package with any of these sites and you’ll be surprised at the strange new fees tacked on right before check out. These sites will often advertise a reduced price to attract visitors, but often times they will exclude tax or transfer fees. These additional costs can sometimes spike the price up to 50% how does that sound to you? Personally, we’re not that into surprises when it comes to dollars.

Solution: Make sure you know what the FINAL price is before committing to any package. Do yourself a favor and call a travel expert (call us) and make sure you’re actually getting a good deal.

The big discount travel sites love to promote specials and discounts at bargain prices but don’t forget the old American saying, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” The truth is these special priced discounts are often for bad weather seasons or the rooms nobody else wants! Solution: Find out exactly what you’re getting by double-checking the rooms available and how your package compares to the rest. Do some research and find out how the weather will be where you’re going.

Luckily the big conglomerates have cleaned up their act a bit in the last few years (mostly due to terribly high complaints by customers) but their support still remains below average. Their customer support is typically outsourced to another country and you will often find it difficult to get your questions answered in a timely manner. Your time is precious to you, but not to them unfortunately. Maybe you’re thinking, “It’s just business baby” but we don’t think that’s a worthy excuse. Life is precious, time is precious, and it’s simply unexcusable to waste your time waiting for someone to half-answer your questions.

Solution: We wish this was an easy one to solve, unfortunately you don’t have too many good options for avoiding this if you deal with one of the big discount travel sites. Our best advice is to find a travel expert who can match or beat their prices (like AllInclusiveVacations).
