A temple tour, sunset or perhaps an elephant trek from the northern capital of Luang Prabang. A boat ride down the Nam Ou river. A slow riverbank afternoon in Vientiane. Tubing in Vang Vieng. Slow lazy days in the 4,000 islands. World Heritage Wat Phu in Champassak. The spectacular Konglo cave near Tha Khaek.

The most popular time to go is between November and February. There is little rain but the rivers are high and the weather isn't too hot. The Lao rainy season runs from May to October. April is very hot and can be very smoky due to farmers burning back. On the upside April brings Lao New Year -- the party to end all parties.

The US bombardment of Laos saw B52s and other aircraft drop more bombs on the country than fell on all of Europe during World War II. Almost a third failed to detonate.

Landlocked Laos is one of the Asia's most enchanting destinations. Stunning natural beauty -- think mist-shrouded mountain peaks flanked by jungle-clad valleys ... Read more »

Deciding how to transport your baby can be tricky, and you may feel that you have a lot to buy. You will need a car seat for trips in the car, a pushchair or pram for travelling on foot, and possibly a carrycot to carry your baby from A to B. Travel systems allow you to buy everything you need in one go.

A travel system is a type of pushchair that is compatible with a rear-facing car seat and usually a carrycot. The car seat and carrycot can both click in and out of the pushchair, which can be handy when you have a sleeping baby who you don t want to wake.

Although travel systems may seem expensive, buying one can be an economical way of buying both a pushchair and separate car seat. The carrycot can also be used as an alternative to a Moses basket for your baby to sleep in at night when she is very young.

  • You can move your baby from your car to the pushchair without waking her up.
  • You only need to make one purchase decision: you can get a pu ... Read more »

Longer Natural History Tours of the Galapagos Islands

O ur trips are different. Most of them spend 11 days in the Galapagos Islands. About half a dozen expeditions each year spend 15 days in the islands. These are the longest regularly available tours of the Galapagos.

It is the fate of most voyagers, no sooner to discover what is most interesting in any locality than they are hurried from it.

Charles Darwin, 1845

Our trips are educationally-oriented and are accompanied by a Tour Leader / Biologist in addition to a local Naturalist Guide. The tours are oriented to the passenger who wants to observe and learn as much as possible about the Galapagos - the animals and plants - on land and in the water.

The tours are also oriented to photographers (although you don't have to be a photographer to get full value and enjoyment from our trips). We do offer some light photographic advice and, more important extensive, unique, and excellent photo opport ... Read more »

The rich, consisting mostly of a Hispanic (or "Criollo") elite, live in the cities. An educator can use common travel brochures in a variety of teaching scenarios. For instance, students can use travel brochures to gain understanding of a different culture in a foreign language class, or they can create their own to demonstrate what they've learned about a geographic location and its culture. Social studies, history and geography classes can use travel brochures to showcase a state or town. Brochures can also teach students about text structures found in informational writing and how to write descriptively.

Obtain samples of travel brochures from a hotel lobby or travel agent to teach students about descriptive writing and writing complexities. Have English students take a paragraph from a brochure and break it down into as many simple sentences as possible. For example, the sentence "the long, sandy beaches are good for tanning" could be broken down into "the beaches are long", "the beaches are sandy", "the beaches are good for tanning". This activity will ... Read more »

A little planning can locate the best airline prices even for first class. (Photo: John Rowley/Digital Vision/Getty Images )

Airlines often prove to be the fastest way to connect two destinations, especially if they are across the country or around the world. However, they can also be the most expensive way to travel, especially with constantly rising fuel prices. But savvy travelers know that a little research and following a few tips can save money. These tips can frequently save time and hassle as well because they use less crowded times and airports.

Step 1

Determine a baseline price. Unless you are well schooled in the intricacies of airline travel, you may only have the vaguest notion of how much airfare is between two places. And if the journey involves unfamiliar cities, you may have no idea of the cost. Visit travel websites, where you can specify destinations, dates and classes of travel to receive a list of airlines and their airfares. Sort the lis ... Read more »

Mexico (Spanish: Mexico ), is a fascinating country in North America. lying between the United States of America to the north, and Guatemala and Belize to the southeast.

"Wisdom lies neither in fixity nor in charge, but in the dialect between the two." — Octavio Paz

Mexico is officially called the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos ).

Mexico is one of the most popular tourist countries on the planet. Much of the tourist industry revolves around the beach resorts as well as the altiplano in the central part of the country. Visiting the northern interior allows visitors to get off the beaten path a bit. American tourists tend to predominate on the Baja peninsula and the more modern beach resorts (Cancun and Puerto Vallarta ), while European tourists congregate around the smaller resort areas in the south like Playa del Carmen and colonial towns like San Cristobal de las Casas and Gua ... I want to go to Oahu Hawaii in mid May for a wedding. What airline or website provides the cheapest tickets ?

I am coming form California. Either Oakland or San Francisco which ever is cheaper. =]

It all depends on where you re coming from. If you re coming from the west coast, I highly suggest www.hawaiianair.com, as they re usually much cheaper than mainland airlines. If you re coming from somewhere midwest, or east coast, you can still save a couple hundred dollars by booking separately a cheap flight or bus ride to an airport that Hawaiian Air flies out of. If you put where you re coming from, I can help you do some research.

Travelocity and Orbitz price is $347.23 on Hawaiian Air. It s cheaper and more reliable to book through the direct airline (do it online!), and Hawaiian Airlines was #1 in customer service ^.^

Few cities have honed their swoon-inducing skills as well as this one: every cobbled lane, every streetside cafe, every patisserie window seems to have been art-directed by some impossibly savvy set designer; every passerby apparently costumed by a couturier. Paris spoils you for everywhere else—yet somehow, despite centuries at the epicenter of global tourism, it has never spoiled itself. (No city has so successfully navigated the tricky business of historic preservation.) And although Paris does grandeur and drama better than any place, its greatest pleasures are arguably its simplest ones: the rustic charm of a humble neighborhood bistro; the tranquility of a churchyard; the lilt of a jazz combo; the crunch of a perfect baguette. Best of all, such indulgences are easily accessible and affordable (and often outright free). When was the last time your heart quickened by the mere act of walking down the street?

Paris just may spoil you for every other city. Chanel-clad ladie ... Read more »

Have you ever watched a movie or TV show and thought, "I want to go THERE!"

I certainly have.

Here are a few movies and shows that have inspired me - whether or not I have actually gotten to the locations in the movie, they have made me think about places I want to see and have helped me create my "bucket list".

How about you? What's on your travel bucket list?

I'm actually not a big fan of the The Lord of the Rings books or movies, but I did see the first film and fell in love with New Zealand, where it was shot. One of my top fantasy destinations!

Under the Tuscan Sun may not have been Oscar-worthy, but after seeing this film I dreamed of going to Tuscany (as did many, many others!). (And it's kind of a fun movie, too!)

Out of Africa did win several Oscars, and if nothing else, it is just a gorgeous film to watch. The stunning scenery of Kenya will make you want to hop a plane and find Robert Redford!

These websites are high recommended because of the cheapest flights, hotels, packages.

If you are interested in book a vacation package, you can try the websites above and you can choose an excellent vacation package if you simply follow these instructions:

1. Where are you going? The best place to go on vacation depends in the person, for me the best place will be Europe.

You have to think in this to see which place visit, and also you have to think of the plane tickets, if they are not expensive and if they are not with too many conditions and terms.

2. Where are you going to stay? This is a tricky question, well if you have family, friends, or anyone that you know, you can stay with he/she and maybe he can take you to turistic places, or if you don t have anyone: you can take a breath and rent a room in a hotel, well some hotels are really expensive; but you can find a good, comfortable and cheap hotel. As a travel writer, I measure profit by how many people s trips I impact. By that standard, May 4th is one of the most exciting days in my 30-year-long career. Today, Smithsonian Presents Travels with Rick Steves . a special issue of Smithsonian magazine, hits newsstands all over the USA.

The magazine is 104 pages devoted entirely to my favorite places. For me, this is the travel-writing equivalent of giving birth to a child. While I m a proud papa about my contribution (the writing), the mother of this collaboration — if I may call Smithsonian that — is why this baby is so darn beautiful. I ve never seen my writing mixed with such beautiful art, and then so expertly laid out.

The experience was humbling. I learned years ago that life is too short to work with people who aren t really talented and committed. And, just as important, life is too short to work with people you don t enjoy. In other words, collaborating with talented and fun peo ... Read more »

The most popular time to visit Thailand is between November and March. This is not only the pleasant temperature the country has, but also this period is the main season for festivals in Thailand. You will be having lots of fun participating in the Loi Krathong and New Year festivals.

However, if you come at the end of this period and stay longer until 13-15 April, you will be able to experience some extra fun with the extraordinary water festival, called Songkran in every part of the countries. A little tip is that if you expect to enjoy this Songkran festival in Pattaya, you will have to stay a little longer as Songkran in only pattaya is held during 17-19 April each year. This period is also Thailand s peak tourist season. As a result, if you want to avoid crowds and expensive room rates, you should choose the least crowded months like from April to June or September to October.

Determine the airport where you wish to arrive. Although most major carriers fly to McCarran International Airport, other regional airports may provide access within the area at a lower price. When deciding the best deal for you, calculate and add in the cost of ground transportation to and from the regional airport if you are not planning to rent a car. Shuttle and taxi services often charge a flat rate for airport transportation and will list that on their website or give the information to you when you call.

Visit airline websites directly. Keep your origin and destination airports the same on the search page but adjust the travel dates to compare fares. Las Vegas tends to attract tourists on weekends and surrounding days, so traveling on those days may result in higher fares. Add round-trip baggage fees if you will be checking a bag to determine the total cost for the flight.

We all know when we go to Las Vegas we can either leave with nothing or leave with a lot ... Read more »

The answer: It depends. That said, here are some things to consider if you’re visiting Amsterdam, Madrid, Florence or Paris.

Comfortable with a shower in the middle of your room? You just might be ready for a stay at this property that’s six miles outside the city center.

This property, which opened a year ago in a former diamond factory, offers warmth and personality just a 10-minute stroll from notable museums.

What compels people to return to the same place or experience repeatedly? Answers from nine writers take you to Athens and Berlin, Paris and Granada — and beyond.

Walks in the city can evoke figures from the past, from Rembrandt to Anne Frank, who continue to have profound stories to tell.
