Get Paid to Be Pampered

Dear Reader,

I rarely plan much before a vacation. But whenever I hop in the car for a road trip or look for last-minute flights, I have one thing in the back of my mind: Spa-ing!

On my visit to Kauai I found myself enjoying a 2-hour lomilomi massage (a traditional Hawaiian treatment) with two practitioners-- so four hands instead of two. That detail alone equaled pure bliss. But the treatment room itself was blissful with French Doors that opened toward the ocean.

In Tuscany, I found myself at a spa where a tiny Spanish woman massaged honey all over my chest. She insisted it was good for elasticity.

Later that day, the spa manager guided me to the Sleep Lounge. I walked into a pod that uses light therapy to help aid in relaxation. I fell asleep inside a pink-lighted egg and woke up refreshed two hours later.

Over Christmas, I found myself wading through hot springs in the most unlikely place a small, po-dunk town in Wyoming, that was, in the 1970 s, known as the Healing Center of the West.

And how can I forget the Chardonnay Wine Therapy Body Treatment which began with a Chardonnay antioxidant body scrub to exfoliate my skin and concluded with a deep massage using Chardonnay oil.

No matter my destination, my journey always leads to a pampering adventure one I m often enjoying at a discount (or even free) and then getting paid to talk about.

Sometimes it s in a place that has become an old favorite sometimes I m on a quest to find the best-kept secret spa off the radar of Top 10 Spas and sometimes I m simply enjoying an adventure in a new town, state or country.

For me, travel is the opportunity to indulge in spa treatments many people dream of.

and then relay the blissful details to readers in the articles I write.

Turn Your Travels into Paid Spa Adventures

My name is Melissa Broughton. I m one of Great Escape Publishing s travel writing instructors with, what I happen to think, is the best niche in the market Spa Health writing!

I essentially get paid to be pampered and you can, too!

You don t have to be a licensed practitioner (such as an esthetician or massage therapist) to write about this market. You don t have to know everything there is to know about the spa industry.

I didn t have much experience or any credentials when I first started.

I didn t need that to break in and neither do you!

If (like me) you like to relax in steam rooms get divine facials, massages and body treatments experience new things when you travel and want to learn the art of relaxation and wellness then you can do this!

It s simply a matter of learning a few easy secrets about reviewing and writing about spas. Secrets I d like to give you.

You see, spa writing is a great way to land by-lines fast especially if you re open to spa health.

Secret # 1: A great way to break in with lightning speed and start getting paid to be pampered is to look not only at spa treatments but spa health.

Now spa health includes pampering, no question but it also expands your opportunities into the holistic and wellness arena where there s strong demand and lots of outlets for articles. That can mean more by-lines, better pay, and royal treatment all over the world.

Assignments in this area are a lot of fun. Often I ve learned lessons about my own health, and I ve enjoyed the scenery, quirks and characters along the way.

Like the time a spa review at Terme di Saturnia led me through incredibly winding roads through the countryside of Toscana. When I arrived, I was sick to my stomach from the ride. The spa manager walked me straight to a fountain where the water came from the natural hot springs (quite common at spas in Italy). She insisted I drink it, despite the sulfur smell. Only 10 minutes later, I felt like a woman who was being pampered in Italy again!
