Many travelers fret that they've forgotten an important item that they won't be able to easily find abroad. But smart travelers create a list well in advance of their departure date and double-check it prior to leaving. Remember, pack anything that you can't live without for a few days in your carry-on luggage, since lost or delayed luggage is a common nuisance. DocumentsYou're not going anywhere without your passport or visa. Make two copies of the two identification pages on the inside front cover of your passport. Leave one copy at home with trusted friends or relatives and take the other copy with you. If your passport is lost or stolen, have this official information readily available to expedite a passport replacement request. If you plan to drive overseas, you may need an international driver's permit in addition to your regular driver's license; check the individual regulations for your destination country. As of 2011, you can obtain this permit for less than $20 via AAA or the National Auto Club. Also remember to bring your airline ticket or confirmation number as well as copies of any travel insurance you may have purchased.
