Spain is located southwestern Europe and comprises part of the Iberian Peninsula. the Canary Islands. the Balearic Islands and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in Africa.

Its total area is 504,782 km2 of which 499,542 km2 are mainland and 5,240 km2 are water. Spain lies between latitudes 26° and 44° N, and longitudes 19° W and 5° E. Its Atlantic coast is 710 km (441 mi) long.

The boundaries of Spain are: The Mediterranean Sea on the south and east, the Cantabrico on the north, the Atlantic Ocean on the northwest and southwest with France and Andorra in the northeast and with Portugal on the west.

Its landscapes offer an extraordinary variety, from desert areas to the freshest green fields, where mountains, valleys, rivers and beaches originate a variety of climates. Spain is a nation organized territorially into seventeen autonomous communities and two autonomous cities.

The autonomous communities are: Andalucía, Aragón, Canarias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Cataluña, Madrid, Navarra, Valencia, Extremadura, Galicia, Baleares island, La Rioja, País Vasco, Asturias and Murcia.
