How to get

Getting to Pakistan is easier than it ever has been with many major airlines serving cities in Pakistan directly or via hubs in Europe, Asia or the Middle East. If time is an issue, you might of course want to consider taking a direct flight with Pak International Airlines. As with most destinations, generally the more flexible you are, the better and lower the price will be.

There are numerous airlines all with their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of connection times, choice of stopover options, onboard facilities etc. Some of the main airlines include Qatar Airways (connecting via Doha), Etihad Airways (travelling via Abu Dhabi), Emirates (connecting in Dubai), Gulf Air (transiting in Bahrain), Turkish Airlines (flying via Istanbul), Oman Air (travelling through Muscat) and Uzbekistan Airways (via Tashkent).

All airlines offers a variety of timings and class of travel. Economy class fares are usually far more restrictive than those in Business or First, however, they are of course considerably cheaper. If you think you might need to make changes to your ticket, it is worth checking the terms and conditions or speaking to one of our sales advisers regarding the options.

When to go

Many people travelling to Pakistan from the UK will be going to visit friends and relatives whether for a special occasion such as Eid or Ramadan or for a wedding, birthday, family celebration or a more sombre occasion such as a funeral. If this is the case, then circumstances will naturally dictate when you need to fly. Even if your dates are fixed, however, there are ways to save on your flight tickets if you can be flexible a day or two either side of your preferred dates.

Our search engine or sales advisers can assist you with this. If you are travelling to Pakistan for a holiday then when to go will depend on how you like your weather and what part of the country that you are travelling to. The south side (including the cities of Karachi and Lahore) gets very hot and humid during the summer months and daytime temperatures can be well in excess of 40C. That is of course great if you like heat but not ideal for sightseeing. It is probably also worth avoiding the monsoon season of July and August unless you have a good umbrella and plenty of waterproof clothing! In contrast, the north is usually cooler than the south and indeed can be very cold in the mountainous areas during the winter months. Consequently if you are heading to the northern part of the country, it may be worth considering planning your trip for the pleasant spring and warmer summer times.

What to do

Pakistan is a fascinating country with a rich history, culture and friendly, welcoming people. Just about wherever you go in Pakistan you will find a wealth of things to do and places to visit. From trekking in the mountainous northern regions to sightseeing in the cities of the south, we will give you some pointers below on how to make the most out of your stay.

For the adventurous types, northern region is a very special place and affords fabulous outdoor and trekking opportunities. It has been estimated that in the Himalayas, Karakoram and Pamirs mountains, there are over a hundred mountains at 7000m metres or higher. Many of these are in or visible from northern region.

If sightseeing is your thing, the south of the country offers a wide diversity of activities to ensure you have a fun-packed stay. The city of Rawalpindi just south of Islamabad offers a glimpse into traditional Pakistani life with bazaars and great examples of regional architecture. Islamabad itself has plenty to offer including the Faisal Masjid Mosque which is one of the largest in the world. The National Gallery is well worth checking out too as it has displays of many important national and regional artworks.

For museum lovers, the National Museum in Karachi is a must. Also in Karachi is the impressive mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam's Mazar (the founder of the country).

Although it has seen its fair share of troubles in recent years due to its political significance, the region of Kashmir is simply stunning with its breathtaking mountains (including K2, the world's second largest) and the Baltoro Glacier which is the largest glacier outside of the north and south poles.
