No, its a place to avoid making travel arrangements due to the common scams, etc. Use a decent travel agent in another part of the city, or even better do it yourself. All the domestic airlines can be booked online, and there are lots of reliable hotel booking services like asiarooms.com, sawadee.com, agoda.com and others.

The only time I read or hear about problems with travel agencies are those in the Khao San Road area. It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the whole barrel.

In over a dozen years I have never had a problem with a travel agency providing what I paid for. But none of those travel agencies were in the KSR area. Most of the travel agencies I used for myself and booking tours for arriving friend were in the Sukhumvit area or in Pattaya .

For train rides you can book those in person at the train station during your first few days seeing Bangkok. You can also buy your bus tickets at local bus stations for long distance travel.

For plane tickets I have used Business Inn on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 several times.
