New model from Exodus Camper Trailers

The Kingston

I was privileged to meet up with Ian Simpson recently to check over the prototype of the soon to be released Kingston, a new model in the Exodus Campers range. For those who have been following these write ups, you will realise Ian doesn't hang around is constantly looking at ways to improve the campers he produces.

When he pulled up I quickly noticed that the new Kingston was very different from the previous models. The campers sandwiched foam fibreglass shell had been extended towards the rear at a neat angle with plenty of departure clearance. Gone was the open-ended box trailer other models sat on. Instead the Kingston is placed on a steel flatbed trailer giving plenty of protection underneath from flying rocks over gravel roads. The production models will have a hot dipped galvanised trailer. Vehicle Components Cruisemaster independent suspension is now standard, as well as the Vehicle Components AT35 coupling, 31x10.5R15 wheels Landcruiser hubs.

There is plenty of storage lockers around the outside, an outside stove, a huge front storage box a self-standing awning over the off side.

The interior was light airy. Added was flyscreened windows in the sides of the canvas in the rear opening roof to give plenty of ventilation. Although it was warm, a cool sea breeze blew with the sandwiched foam giving insulation qualities, plus the two solar panels on the roof, it was quite comfortable inside. The best thing about setting up is just walking inside pushing the rear of the roof up. That's it.

In the extended rear area sits the kitchen with sink, cooktop an uprright 80lt fridge/freezer giving plenty of room to prepare a meal in camp or something quick for lunch on the roadside. Down the side of this area is the seating area, with soon to be added removable table. The seat can also be used as a bunk bed for the kids. The main bed is made up ready to go. You do not have to make it each day.

There is plenty of internal storage provided. Two rollout draws under the main bed, two cupboards under the seat/bunk, plus under the sink/stove area.
