1. Adjusting Paint Gun

1.1. How do you properly adjust a standard spray gun? I'm assuming a conventional suction feed spray gun. An HVLP is a little different. Set your air pressure first. The gauge at the gun should read approximately 55 lbs with the trigger pulled far enough to allow air and not fluid. Point the gun at a piece of masking paper, and pull the trigger a bit further to allow fluid. The pattern should be convex, with slightly more paint in the center than the edges (I'm going to have to put some pictures on my page since this is a commonly asked question). The idea is with a 1/2 overlap, to e ... Read more »

Travel Writing for

Pleasure and Profit

by Durant Imboden

Part 1:

Opportunities for travel writers

Travel and writing go together like passports and visas. Most major newspapers have travel sections, dozens of magazines are devoted to travel, book publishers churn out guidebooks to destinations great and small, and books by authors like Paul Theroux and Peter Mayle have helped to breathe new life into the long-dormant travel narrative or armchair travel genre.

This doesn't mean that travel writers are getting rich. (In fact, most aren't.) But it does mean there's a large audience for travel prose. You can reach that audience if you know your subject and can bring it to life through good writing.

Home to more than 10 million people, the "City of Lights" is majestic in its architecture and artistic heritage. More than a destination of pleasurable externals, bourgeois absolutes and just-baked baguettes, Paris is great sightseeing, incredible shopping, and leisure dining that always comes with desserts in the form of delicate trays of the finest chocolates and macarons.

Paris is so much more than the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame and the Louvre. This trip, stroll the Marais and shop along rue des Francs Bourgeois or walk under the arches of the oldest square in Paris, Place des Vosges. Take time to explore the Latin Quarter to see the church of St. Severin, the Sorbonne and rue Mouffetard -- not just because it's where Joyce, Orwell, Balzac and Hemingway ... Read more »

City Breaks in Paris

Paris is an alluring destination for a city break. From its chic shops and fashionable cafes, to its famous museums and iconic sights, there’s plenty to take you beyond a short weekend break. If you haven’t already done it, climbing the Eiffel Tower is on most people’s must-do lists. Go at night, when it’s less-crowded, and you’ll see sweeping views of illuminated Paris. For something a bit more low key, wander streets around Place de la Bastille to discover the areas wonderful bakeries and cafés. We recommend Boulangerie Bazin with its award-winning breads and pastries.

Arty Paris

Art lovers flock to The Louvre Museum for its huge art collection that includes the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. Housed in the former historic palace it’s an impressive sight on the outside too. And, you can wander around gorgeous landscaped Tuileries Gardens. next door. There’s another opportunit ... Read more »

Ooh - BAD timing for travel to Hawaii - and if not booked by now you probably just about have to have a travel agent. Good thing this is just the honeymoon and not the wedding, if you are booking now - so an agent will be even more important to you in this case, though I guess you might get a decent deal with an airline-sponsored package deal for two as well, if any are still available.

My experience - a good travel agent is worth their weight in gold - we give ours a thank-you gift each year. We have one that charges $35 a person fee for all but extensive foreign travel packages (they make most of their money off booking commissions). Some cultures are haunted by the existential. For many Peruvians, the question that gnaws at them daily would seem simple: what to eat? Ceviche with slivers of fiery chili and corn, stews simmered for hours in beer and cilantro, velvety Amazonian chocolate. In the capital of Latin cooking, so many choices can be perplexing. Great geographic and cultural diversity has brought ingredients – ranging from highland tubers to tropical jungle fruits – to a cuisine created with the complex history of Spanish, indigenous, African and Asian influence. Ask an Italian where in the world they would most like to live, and the odds are that they will say “right here”. Indeed, most people – not just Italians – have raved about Italy since tourism began, and to be honest the country really does have it all: one of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in Europe; the world’s greatest hoard of art treasures (many on display in fittingly spectacular cities and buildings); a climate that is on the whole benign; and, most important of all for many, a delicious and authentic national cuisine. The country is not perfect – its historic cities have often been marred by development, and beyond the showpiece sights the infrastructure is visibly straining – but for its places to visit, many of the old clichés still ring true; once you’ve visited, you may never want to travel anywhere else.

Italy might be the world’s most celebrated tourist destination, but it only became a unified state in 1861, and as a res ... Read more »

Though it remains far less well known or understood by outsiders than some of its neighbours, since reunification Germany has at last gained a higher profile as a place to visit, thanks partly to the remarkable resurgence of Berlin, one of the most fascinating and exciting cities in Europe. But the appeal of the reunified Germany is not limited to the capital. The 2006 football World Cup was something of a turning point, both with regards to Germany’s image abroad and to its own self-image, rehabilitating the idea of German patriotism for the first time since the war. When football fans descended on cities all over the country, they discovered a friendly, multiethnic and multicultural nation that was, for the most part, at ease with itself, finally happy to fly its own flag in a harmless display of national pride.

It’s now two decades since the events of 1989 swept away the Berlin Wall and brought to an uplifting end a turbulent and agonizin ... Read more »

Peru is a country in South America. situated on the western side of that continent, facing the South Pacific Ocean and straddling part of the Andes mountain range that runs the length of South America. Peru is bordered by Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, and Chile to the south. Peru is a country that has a diversity and wealth not common in the world. #Employment Contract Questions

There are a variety of types of contracts employers may enter into with their employees in the US. Employment contracts are legal documents, meant to protect both the employer as well as the employee during the period of employment. Any time there is an employment contract, questions get asked. One of the many questions that can be raised is what a breach of employment contract is. Here are some of the frequently asked questions answered by the Experts about employment contracts.

Is it legal in Texas for an employment contract to restrict an employee from leaving the company within a specific time period due to high investment in the employee or penalize the employee if the contract is breached?

Clauses such as these in an employment contract are called “restrictive covenant” or “non-compete” clauses. Texas is known to honor such clauses, but as far as the legality of the clause in a particular situation i ... Read more »

Nepal is the very watershed of Asia. Squeezed between India and Tibet, it stretches from rich subtropical forest to soaring Himalayan peaks: from jungly tiger habitat to the precipitous hunting grounds of the snow leopard. Climbing the hillside of one valley alone you can be sweltering in the shade of a banana palm in the morning, and sheltering from a snowstorm in the afternoon.

Nepal’s cultural landscape is every bit as diverse as its physical one. Its peoples belong to a host of distinctive ethnic groups, and speak a host of languages. They live in everything from dense, ancient cities erupting with pagoda-roofed Hindu temples to villages perched on dizzying sweeps of rice-farming terraces and dusty highland settlements clustered around tiny monasteries. Religious practices range from Indian-style Hinduism to Tibetan Buddhism and from nature-worship to shamanism – the indigenous Newars, meanwhile, blend all these traditions with their own, int ... Few countries have changed so much over such a short time as Vietnam. Less than forty years since the savagery and slaughter of the American War, this resilient nation is buoyant with hope. It is a country on the move: access is now easier than ever, roads are being upgraded, hotels are springing up and Vietnam’s raucous entrepreneurial spirit is once again alive and well as the old-style Communist system gives way to a socialist market economy. As the number of tourists visiting the country soars, their talk is not of bomb craters and army ordnance but of shimmering paddy fields and sugar-white beaches, full-tilt cities and venerable pagodas; Vietnam is a veritable phoenix arisen from the ashes.

The speed with which Vietnam’s population has been able to put the bitter events of its recent past behind it, and focus its gaze so steadfastly on the future, often surprises visitors expecting to encounter shell-shocked resentment of the West. It ... Read more »

Get Inspired

Maine's largest city is considered small by national standards—its population is just 64,000—but its character, spirit, and appeal make it feel much larger. In fact, it is a cultural and economic center for a metropolitan area of 230,000 residents—almost one-quarter of Maine's entire population. It's well worth at least a day or two of exploration.A city of many names throughout its history, including Casco and Falmouth, Portland has survived many dramatic transformations. Sheltered by the nearby Casco Bay Islands and blessed with a deep port, Portland was a significant settlement right from its start in the early 17th century. Settlers thrived on fishing and lumbering, repeatedly building up the area while the British, French, and Native Americans continually sacked it. Many considered the region a somewhat dangerous frontier, but its potential for prosperity was so apparent that settlers came anyway to tap its rich natural resources. In 1632 ... Read more »

Sri Lanka has seduced travellers for centuries. Marco Polo described it as the finest island of its size in the world, while successive waves of Indian, Arab and European traders and adventurers flocked to its palm-fringed shores, attracted by reports of rare spices, precious stones and magnificent elephants. Poised just above the Equator amid the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean, the island’s legendary reputation for natural beauty and plenty has inspired an almost magical regard even in those who have never visited the place. Romantically inclined geographers, poring over maps of the island, compared its outline to a teardrop falling from the tip of India or to the shape of a pearl (the less impressionable Dutch likened it to a leg of ham), while even the name given to the island by early Arab traders – Serendib – gave rise to the English word “serendipity”.

Marco Polo’s bold claim still holds true. Sri Lanka packs an extraordinary variety ... Read more »
