#european travel # FORT GEORGEFort George has set out to establish itself as a cultural hub in the Adriatic acting as a focal point for people to meet and experience its history, culture and unique entertainment. Situated on the island of Vis, Croatia, Fort George was built by the British Navy in 1813 as part of their efforts to wrest control of the Adriatic from Napoleon. Standing on a high promontory with a commanding and breathtaking view of the island, the fort is currently undergoing the second phase of restoration to become a high-end, multi-purpose venue. The rich heritage of the fort will be captured and preserved in a small museum housing paintings, maps and other artefacts relating to its turbulent past. WINE CELLAREvery inch a match for the selection of spirits and cigars upstairs, the wine cellar will be carefully stocked to trump expectations and reward exploration. RESTAURANTThe mission here is to offer new, innovative and interesting cuisine mirroring the vaulting ambition of the Fort George project and a dining experience to live up to its spectacular setting. Artists will be invited to take up residencies to allow them to respond to and be inspired by their surroundings, infusing the fort with their vibrancy and creativity. The garden will host a string of high-profile bands, solo artists and DJís as part of a programme of summer entertainment.
