U.S. insurance is invalid in Mexico, but luckily, Mexico insurance is easy to obtain in the U.S. and is generally quite affordable. The minimum you need is civil liability insurance, but other plans are available, priced according to vehicle and coverage. Mexican law doesn’t require drivers to have auto insurance, but in case of an accident, no matter how small you must have the means to pay for damages—e.g. valid insurance.
