Maritime Travel awarded Platinum Level as one of Canada s Best Employers for 2016

HALIFAX, NS Aon Canada has named Maritime Travel to the Platinum Level as one of the Best Employers in Canada, following the release of its annual study. The Best Employers in Canada Study is a research study that publicly recognizes Best Employer organizations that have created great work environments.

Maritime Travel is about our people, says Chairman and CEO Rob Dexter. Our travel counsellors are among the best and most knowledgeable in the business. It is rewarding to know we are also among the most highly engaged workforces in Canada.

The primary requirement for being recognized as a Best Employer is creating and sustaining highly engaged employees something which is measured by asking employees at participating organizations directly through a survey. According to Aon s definition, employees are engaged when they say, stay and strive.

Overall, 236 private- and public-sector organizations across Canada and from every sector participated in the study this year. Of these, 136 had 400 or more employees and were considered for the Best Employers list. Organizations that scored in the top 25% achieved the Platinum Level, while those scoring in the top third achieved Gold. Maritime Travel is one of a total of 41 organizations that made it onto the 2016 list. Some of the benchmarks include employees perceptions of senior leadership, people-manager effectiveness, enabling employee productivity, and valuing and appreciating employees. The Best Employers study is now entering its 18th year.

Based in Halifax, Maritime Travel has been in business since 1949 and is one of Canada s largest independent travel agency chains, with 114 locations coast to coast. Maritime Travel is also a Platinum member of Canada s Best Managed Companies.
