MORE ON:

The borough best known for Archie Bunker, loud jetliners and the lovable losing Mets has been called the king of US travel destinations.

Queens was named America’s No. 1 destination for 2015 by travel advisers at Lonely Planet on Wednesday.

New York’s largest borough is “quickly becoming its hippest, but most travelers haven’t clued in. yet,” according to the tour guide.

Lonely Planet lauded the borough’s cultural and culinary diversity.

“Browse New York’s biggest Chinatown in Flushing, shop for brilliantly colored saris in Jackson Heights, and inhale the heady aromas of coffee and hookahs in Astoria,” according to Lonely Planet.

“The incomparable array of world cuisines makes Queens a destination for food lovers from all parts of New York City.”

The site also praised the borough’s artistic offerings, such as the Queens Museum and the Museum of the Moving Image.

“This is huge because Lonely Planet is a big, well-respected travel media company,” said Rob MacKay, director of the Queens Tourism Council. “This is going to put Queens in the minds of travelers all over the world.”

Following Queens in Lonely Planet’s quirky Top 10 list were western South Dakota; New Orleans; the Colorado River; North Conway, NH; Indianapolis; Greenville, SC; Oakland, Calif.; Duluth, Minn.; and Mount Shasta in California.

“Queens is hot and on the move, and we’re thrilled by the growing attention and interest,” Queens Borough President Melinda Katz said. “You haven’t really seen New York City unless you have experienced Queens.”

Queens boosters hope this push from Lonely Planet will coax travelers onto the 7, N, R, E, F, M and A trains.

“There’s always been a psychological barrier to getting people out here [from Manhattan],” said MacKay, who called Wednesday “the best day of my work life.”

“When they come here, they have a good time. It’s just a question of getting them out here.”

Queens, with 2.3 million residents, is the city’s second-most populous borough behind Brooklyn, which has 2.6 million people.
