New York Times launches tour program

The New York Times’ travel program, Times Journeys. has expanded to include 21 land-based tours.

The Times is working with Abercrombie Kent, Mountain Travel Sobek and Academic Travel Abroad to operate the tours, which are commissionable to travel agents through the partner operators.

Times Journeys launched in 2012 with primarily a cruise product.

Times Journeys has three trip styles: Luxury Travel, Active Travel and Focus On, the last of which provides an in-depth experience into a particular subject, such as Italian opera or Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Each package is inspired by New York Times content, and either a Times journalists or expert in the destination and/or subject matter will join guests at various stages on some trips.

Destinations on offer include the U.S. France, Italy, Russia, Scotland, England, Belgium, Ireland, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, China, India, Southeast Asia, Israel, Palestine, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

A sample itinerary is the eight-night Two Spy Capitals of Europe, which explores Berlin and Moscow, with pricing starting at $7,550 per person. The eight-night Israeli-Palestinian Conundrum starts at $5,950 per person.

Included are accommodations, select meals, entrance to some sites and attractions, and several expert-led sessions.

Current departures start in June and go through March 2015. The New York Times said it will add trips over the course of the year.
