#Turkey travel advice.

There is a high threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect places visited by foreigners.

On Monday 18 May, the local offices of the political party HDP (People’s Democratic Party) in Adana and Mersin (both in southern Turkey) were attacked with explosive devices. On 5 June, two people were killed and many injured by an explosion at an HDP rally in Diyarbakir. On 9 June, four people were killed in attack in Diyarbakir.

Turkey shares a long border with Syria. Thousands of foreign nationals, including some British nationals, have recently used Turkey as a transit route with some joining terrorist groups like ANF (Al Nusra Front) and ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) in Syria. ISIL, although based in Syria and Iraq, have the capacity to carry out attacks in neighbouring countries, including Turkey. Media reports suggest that terrorists could target areas throughout Turkey, including Ankara, Istanbul and areas ... Read more »

#USA travel advice.

Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. You don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.

US immigration officials will accept British passports extended by 12 months by British Embassies and Consulates under exceptional measures put in place in mid-2014, but you will need to apply for a visa from the nearest US Embassy or Consulate before travelling.

Visa Waiver Programme (VWP)

The VWP allows most British Citizen passport holders to visit the US for up to 90 days. The types of journey permissible under the VWP include tourism, certain types of business visit and transit to another country. If you have a British passport that describes your nationality as something other than ‘British Citizen’, or if your passport has been extended by 12 months under exceptional measure put in place in mid 2014, you don’t qualify for entry to the US under the VWP and y ... #Use a Fake Location to Get Cheaper Plane Tickets

Most people don’t know there is a simple trick to get a cheaper flight on an airline’s website

I can t explain airline pricing but I do know some plane tickets can be cheaper depending on where you buy them or, even better, where you appear to buy them from. This is all about leveraging foreign currencies and points-of-sale to your advantage.

For reasons I never quite understood, every time I tried to book a domestic flight in another country, the prices were always exorbitant. But, say, once I was in Bangkok, that same flight that was once $300 would fall to $30 almost inexplicably. This phenomenon is because a ticket s point-of-sale the place where a retail transaction is completed can affect the price of any flight with an international component.

Most people don t know there is a simple trick for changing this to get a cheaper flight on an airline s website ; it s how I managed to pay $371 for a ... Read more »

#Turkey travel advice.

Local travel - Syrian border

The FCO advise against all travel to within 10km of the border with Syria. The FCO advise against all but essential travel to the remaining areas of Sirnak, Mardin, Sanlurfa, Gaziantep, Kilis and Hatay provinces. On 11 May 2013, 2 car bombs killed 53 people and wounded more than 100 in the town of Reyhanli, Hatay province. In October 2012, 5 Turkish citizens were killed when a shell fell on the town of Akḉakale. Syrian forces continue to target areas close to the Turkish border and there remains a heightened risk of terrorism in the region.

Mortar rounds reportedly fired by ISIL militants in northern Syria landed on the E90 road near Nusaybin in Mardin province, Turkey, on 15 September 2014. There were no casualties. As a result of heavy fighting between ISIL and Kurdish forces in northern Syria, there has been a mass influx of refugees into Sanliurfa province (southern Turkey) since 19 September 2014.

#Travel booking sites indebted to Hawaii by millions of dollars

Tax season just got even more hellish for nine travel-booking sites that owe Hawaii millions of dollars in back taxes. On Tuesday, the supreme court ruled sites like Orbitz, Priceline, and Expedia must pay up for sales made in Hawaii after a nearly five-year court battle that began in 2010 in Hawaii s Tax Appeal Court. The websites contend that they don t owe said taxes because they do not have physical operations set up in the island state, which is really too bad. They could have been sipping Mai Tais on Waikiki Beach for the last 15 years seeing as the taxes date back t0 2000.

Expedia might be thinking about skimping on umbrella cocktails after being served a bill of as much as $847 million, according to Bloomber g. Expedia has been known to pay taxes on its wholesale rate instead of the entire rate charged to customers, and its lawyers claim the company shouldn t owe anything for the markup. Hawaii isn t the ... #Sun, sea and surfing

IN 1996, when Microsoft was still ahead of the big technology trends, it launched a small brand called Expedia Travel Services. It hoped to persuade customers to book holidays online. It was not an immediate success. Few households had an internet connection then and, just as importantly, most people thought the idea of buying a holiday through the ether (not to mention typing their credit-card details into a web browser) plain foolish.

Indeed, when it comes to reserving flights, hotel rooms and rented cars for holidaymakers, the online-travel market looks quite mature in many rich countries. PhoCusWright, another research firm, reckons that online booking now accounts for 43% of total travel sales in America and 45% in Europe. Since much of the rest is accounted for by business trips handled by specialist corporate-travel agents such as Carlson Wagonlit, scope for the OTAs’ market to grow seems limited. That explains Priceline’s ... Read more »

#Tips for Easier Plane Traveling with Kids - Parenting Tips

(It is never easy!)

When you board a plane with small children in tow, no one is happy. No one wants to sit next to you. No one wants you behind them. No one wants you in front of them.

Ah yes, the joy of plane traveling with children. As cute as your kids may seem to you, I have discovered that when push comes to shove, no one else thinks your kids are so adorable when they are trapped with them on an airplane.

But alas, summer is approaching and parents around the world are planning their vacations. Well, if your destination requires a flight, and you have young kids, then you better do some advance planning. Trust me, I have learned the hard way. Having traveled on 10 overseas flights and 25 domestic flights in the past few years alone, with anywhere from 1-4 children, and once without my husband, I feel that I have acquired more experience than anyone should ever have for traveling with child ... #Top 10 Travel Tips for Argentina

Top 10 Travel Tips for Argentina

Before traveling to Argentina there are a few things that you should know.

  1. Money. Argentina has a lot of corruption within its monetary system. It is important not to carry large bills and to examine the bills that you are spending and receiving. Although Argentines are happy and tourist friendly, that does not mean that one of them might give you back a counterfeit bill. Click here for a quick website that will help you detect fake money.

Bills are generally wrinkled and thin, almost like Monopoly money. The money usually isn’t in the best condition, so handle with care. It is also important to know where a few ATMs are within your area. They have a withdrawal limit and often times run out. Also, remember to carry coins if you intend on riding the buses.

It can be a problem to cash traveler's checks in Argentina. It’s better to bring VISA and Mastercard, and draw ... Read more »

#Six best travel-booking tricks you re not using

Peter Dazeley | Getty Images

Booking travel: You're doing it wrong.

It took time after the recession, but Americans are traveling more these days. Leisure travel is expected to rise 1.9 percent this year, to more than 1.63 billion trips, according to the U.S. Travel Association. But travel costs are rising, too, with the average airfare creeping closer to the $400 mark and PKF Hospitality Research predicting hotels' profits will surpass their prerecession peak this year.

1) Search solo

A quirk of travel-booking systems is that they will show the lowest fare available to seat your entire party, said Rick Seaney, chief executive of FareCompare.com. "Everyone's fare is the same price," he said. So if there are two of the very cheapest seats left, one that's a little more expensive and four that are pricier still, it's only that last option that will show up in your family of four's searc ... #Southeast Asia Travel Guide

The backpacking trail through Southeast Asia is well worn. People have been traveling it since the 1970s. Starting in beautiful Thailand, the trail makes its way to up-and-coming Laos, through Vietnam, and through the temples of Angkor Wat. It then heads back into Thailand, where people head south to party in the Thai Islands before moving down to into Malaysia and Singapore. There’s a few variations on the trail but this is what it mostly covers. The warm months of November-April draw the biggest crowds. Everyone is escaping the cold in Europe, and it’s not too hot in the region. Despite the vastness of the region, the tourist trail is much more uniform in many ways than Europe. Prices can be quite similar in places, transportation types don’t vary too much, and general travel advice is usually the same.

#Single Trip Travel Insurance

Backpacker

Compare the best single trip travel insurance deals

Travel insurance is a must if you are planning a holiday because it can offer a financial lifeline if something goes wrong. You might, for example, lose your luggage, have an accident, fall ill or even have to cancel the trip. It's absolutely vital to have insurance cover, so is single trip insurance right for you?

Single trip or multi trip? What's best?

Whether you decide to go for a single trip policy or invest in an annual policy will depend on how often you plan to travel in the year.

You can buy a policy for a single trip, usually of no more than 30 days, or you can opt for annual insurance, so you are covered for any number of holidays throughout the year. #Places to Visit in Spain

If you’re visiting Spain for the first time, be warned: this is a country that fast becomes an addiction. You might intend to come just for a beach holiday, a walking tour or a city break, but before you know it you’ll find yourself hooked by something quite different – the wild celebration of some local fiesta, perhaps, or the otherworldly architecture of Barcelona. Even in the best-known places to visit – from the capital, Madrid, to the costas. from the high Pyrenees to the Moorish cities of the south – there are genuinely surprising attractions at every turn, whether it’s hip restaurants in the Basque country, the wild landscapes of the central plains, or cutting-edge galleries in the industrial north. Soon, you’ll notice that there is not just one Spain but many – and indeed, Spaniards themselves often speak of Las Españas (the Spains).

Partly, this is down to an almost obsessive regionalism, stemming from the creation in the late 1970 ... Read more »

#Top 54 Complaints and Reviews about

Consumer Complaints Reviews

I booked a round trip flight for 2 from Seattle to New Delhi through Kayak. The total price of the Booking was $2162 for 2. They redirected my booking to this random backend called Vayama.com. They told me that it will take 48 hours for the booking to process. 36 hours later they got back to me saying that they couldn't find the flights and I will have to now pay $500 extra for the same flight. I was furious at this since the price was no longer available on the Emirates website directly either.

My dear friends at Kayak, it's really a shame you choose Vayama as your partner. I've been your loyal customer for the last five years. Every time I need to book a trip, by default I just go to Kayak and always I can get the good price and good service. Because of all these p ... Read more »

#Geocaching Travel Bugs from Groundspeak: The Geocaching Shop for Travel Bugs

After a Geocaching Travel Bug? You can buy a Groundspeak Travel Bug from The Geocaching Shop.

If you're not sure what a geocaching travel bug is let me explain a little. A Travel Bug is a dog tag with a unique tracking number. When purchased they come in pairs so you have a record of the Travel Bugs unique code. The purpose of a Travel bug is to allow you to track your own item on the Geocaching.com website.

Geocachers buy Travel Bugs to attach to items and then hide these items in a geocache, a small container usually a clip top box or metal ammo box. Other geocachers will then find the cache and pick up the item with the Travel Bug. The Travel Bug and item should then be moved on to a different location and th ... Read more »

#Online travel agencies return fire in war with Delta

photo by Ron Cogswell via Flickr

As travel websites offering cheap deals on airline tickets proliferate on the Internet, airlines are looking for more ways to lessen the sites impact. For Delta Airlines, the answer is completely withdrawing its data about flights, tickets and pricing from several third-party booking sites.

Furthermore, without comparison prices alongside, customers won’t know whether they are getting ripped off. Now online agencies are beginning to fight back against what they see is an unfair practice by Delta and other airlines. In a report by Travel Technology Association (Travel Tech), several travel websites — including TripAdvisor, CheapOair, and Hipmunk — have banded together to voice their complaints against the policy, and T ...
