Snow cancels Denver flights; storms disrupt schedules in Texas

Air travelers headed to Denver and other Colorado cities faced a second day of snow-related flight disruptions on Tuesday. And problems cropped up elsewhere as a line of storms moved across a large part of the central United States.

Nearly 150 flights had been canceled at Denver International Airport as of 4:15 p.m. ET, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware. That represented about 10% of the airport’s schedule for the day. About 400 additional flights -- or roughly 25% of the day's schedule -- were running late, according to FlightAware.

Denver is a major hub for both United and Frontier. It’s also one of the biggest bases for Southwest Airlines.

But fliers also suffered flight disruptions at airports in the central third of the USA, where a long line of storms moved through the region. About 90 flights were canceled (about 6% of the day's schedule) at Houston Bush Intercontinental and another 400 delayed (about 30% of the day's schedule) as of 4:15 p.m. ET. Significant delay numbers also were being reported at Dallas/Fort Worth, Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby and Kansas City, according to FlightAware.

As for Denver, Tuesday's disruption marked the second day of problems in Colorado, where a potent winter storm moved through the region late Monday into Tuesday. More than 200 flights – more than 10% of the day’s schedule – were canceled in Denver on Monday while another 220 were delayed.

All three of those carriers waived change fees for customers ticketed to fly to, from or through Denver and some other Colorado destinations on Monday or Tuesday. The waivers (United. Southwest. Frontier ) let fliers make one fee-free change to the itineraries, though some restrictions apply.

American , Delta ,  JetBlue  and Spirit also posted weather waivers for Colorado travel. The details of each waiver policies varies by carrier.
