# The Simple Cost of Traveling the World
Over the past 3 months at The Great Family Escape we have been spending most of our time writing and discussing on the subject of WHY?
Why trade in everything and hit the road with the kids?
I think we all get the point. We love to travel. And we love the benefits travel offers our young kids. We know exactly WHY we are embracing the travel lifestyle.
So I guess it's time to stop asking WHY .
Embracing Simplicity
One of the happiest, freest times of my life was when I was poor. I don't want to say I was poor in the sense of poverty - I wasn't struggling. But sure enough, I was poor. I was in school making about $150 a week. I slept on the floor, shared a filthy house with a bunch of friends and did pretty much whatever I wanted. All I owned was a beat up old Ford. All I had to pay each month was my rent and car insurance. Life was fantastic.<

# Introduction
To the student:
Welcome to this tour of Ibn Battuta's medieval travels. You will be following in the footsteps of this famous 14th century Muslim traveler, exploring the places he visited and the people he encountered. To help you learn more about his adventures there will be images of the people and places he saw, information on the food he might have tasted, and side trips into the past and future.
Ibn Battuta started on his travels when he was 20 years old in 1325. His main reason to travel was to go on a Hajj, or a Pilgrimage to Mecca, as all good Muslims want to do. But his traveling went on for about 29 years and he covered about 75,000 miles visiting the equivalent of 44 modern countries which were then mostly under the governments of Muslim leaders of the World of Islam, or Dar al-Islam . [See the map below.]
He met many dangers and had many adventures along the way. He was attacked by bandits, almost drowned in a sin

# About the List
Anyone who has spent a significant time abroad knows that Canadians are avid travellers. Something about our nature spurs us to explore other countries. We re also overrepresented in many overseas expat communities especially those of English teachers in Asia and make up a disproportionately large chunk of the travel blogging community.
Few Canadians know just how many Canucks are out there exploring the globe and writing about it from a Canadian perspective. To highlight the travels of our wanderlusting countrymen and women, we compiled this list of the Top 100 Canadian Travel Blogs .
In compiling the list, we first asked thousands of travel bloggers to nominate their Canadian friends. Then, our editor, veteran travel blogger Matt Gibson, hand-picked the best 100 Canadian travel blogs from the lot. We feel that ranking the blogs would be arbitrary because both the tastes of readers and the contents of blogs v

# The Top Family Travel Websites
Last year, Rainer Jenss traveled around the world with his wife and two sons, and blogged about his experience here on Intelligent Travel. This year, he s back with a new column that focuses on traveling with kids.
This could be the toughest blog I ve had to write yet. It s Presidents Week and most kids across the U.S. have school recess. And while many American families have hit the road for a winter holiday, whether it be to the warm south for a reprieve from the cold and snow, spending a week at a ski resort, or even visiting Vancouver for the Olympics, well-laid plans are being fulfilled for those who planned ahead. But in the Jenss household, we re home this week on a self-imposed staycation. Rather than wallowing in self-pity that we di
