Interestingly there are 10 countries where mountain gorillas can be visited in the wild. These countries host the four known sub species of the gorillas.

The top countries for gorilla trekking are Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These three countries are the best destinations where to see the endangered mountain gorillas. These three countries commonly have a share of the rare mountain gorilla whose main sanctuary is the Virunga Region. The Virunga Region comprise of 3 national parks namely; Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda, Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. The remaining population of the mountain gorillas live in the neighbouring Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Over 880 mountain gorillas are left in the wild.

For travelers looking to see lowland gorillas in Africa, there are a few destinations where lowland gorilla tourism has been introduced. The top destinations to see lowland gorillas are Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Central African Republic.
